Hey Ben :)

I have noticed during my short stay at TRF that a good chunk of members say “never look at a Rolex through a loupe.”

When I walked into a GS AD, I asked the see the peacock, and the salesman handed me a loupe when he handed me the watch.

I thought that was interesting.

I looked over the watch with the loupe and was blown away.

They're both great looking watches; I don't have a preference; I'd pick both. The hulk is great to play with in various light settings. The peacock (or any GS for that matter) is great when you have a loupe on hand.

Peacock has the better dial/light play/irredecanse by far. Maybe the best of any watch ever. At the same time I sometimes wish it were a couple of mm slimmer. I like the heft but at some angles it look a bit chunky on the wrist.

GS Green is more versatile; the hulk stands out ... like the hulk!

i was deciding between the hulk and the GS and at the time settle for the SBGJ005 - the GS Hi-Beat GMT Limited Edition which won an award at one of the Grand Prix watch shows in 2015

Very different watches. Seiko is a great value. The LV is a hot commodity but not my cup of tea.

The green sumo - szsc004 - is more similar to a hulk. I didn't go thru the whole thread, so apologies if this was previously mentioned. I personally am hoping for an incoming of that one...

Aesthetically this would be the comparison to make. But as far as the Peacock vs Hulk goes, they really are different beasts. Even with a screw down crown and 10 ATM water resistance, I wouldn't dive with the GS or really engage in any sporting activity that may scratch up that beautiful finish! On the flipside for formal occasions I'd leave the Hulk at home. Market demand aside, I'd say the Peacock definitely gives you more bang for your buck.

I wouldn’t figure those as remotely close in style or status. Not to mention ZING

Neither did I, until I tried it on. The GS has incredible detail and craftsman - from the case to the bracelet and from the hands and markers to the dial. The GS dials simply are incredible.

Rolex will always be crown for me, but having several in my collection, I’m glad I added a GS.

Have you tried on a GS? If so, what were your thoughts?

Icon7 Bad pics but the Grand Seiko looks better still

The images of the Grand Seiko don't show one of the things that GS is known for: incredible dial detail and patterning.

One thing the images DO show are that the finishing on the GS shows far more attention to detail. Look at the finished edges on the case and see how the light plays off/reflects the surrounding light. The case is infinitely more dynamic on the GS with much higher attention to detail.

I was a Rolex man all the way until I discovered that GS is doing fit and finish that is worlds above any rolex in the same price range. I'm slowly filling my collection with GS.

With a little research, you'll find that the peacock and Hulk aren't even in the same league.

I started shopping for quality, rather than a known name and I haven't been disappointed.

Cheers, all.

Not sure why anyone would boil it down to a contest between such dissimilar watches (or why a year old thread's back alive), but I think the grand Seiko is a much more special watch and finished to a much higher level. That green Rolex dive watch always looked to me like something a cartoon character would wear.

Hulk.

I was not at all a fan of the bracelet on the GS and not sure but I expect the GS may be a bit thicker?

Significantly thicker. The texture on the peacock dial is certainly more interesting...... But I really like the sunburst lvc. Tough pick to be honest.... But overall I might give the nod to the GS for finishing details and interesting dial... Very hard to take a picture of.

Not really an apples to apples comparison but the finish and detail on the GS is superior to the Rolex. Also the Peacock is way more exclusive. Rolex probably makes more 116610LV's in a year then GS makes total watches.
