Omegas used to stay ok the shelves for over a year?
Hey guys and gals,
Spending some time with my new 3590.50 I got very curious. Mine is a 4833xxxx serial which dates it as one of the latest ones (to my understanding the 3590.50 stopped in 96’?) My warranty card shows it was purchased in 12/12/97 which means that it waited on the shelves for a long long time. Does that sound like a common thing? |

I remember the Houston Omega boutique had the Speedmaster Apollo 17 40th anniversary on the shelf for almost a decade. This is the one with the silver coin dial. Very ugly watch that they could never sell.

Before the recent craze about watches and fast paced production, it was common for the production of an Omega or Rolex watch using parts that were manufactured years apart, and then stayed in the warehouse and shelf for more than a few years before they eventually got sold.

I think what you want to do is go on Omega's web site and request an "Extract From the Archives" for your watch. It'll give the exact date your watch was shipped from Omega to the Authorized Dealer, and who/where that dealer was.
I looked for a link on Omega's web site but nothing obvious jumped off the screen. Maybe someone who's ordered an Extract before it will read this and say how it's done, but if you want to get going on it then there are "Contact Us" buttons in the Customer Service section of Omega's site, and they'll probably point you in the right direction. |
