Someone sounds insecure

But whatever man, pay a few hundred more and get the Explorer if it makes you feel better flaunting it in the office around your HIGH finance colleagues

I have pretty much the same wrist size as you.
This was my choice

Sorry I can’t help you choose a Rolex model to meet your real requirement.

But pehaps an understated unobtainable?

A vintage Submariner with unknown true value.

Anyway, I think I might go with 36mm Datejust in steel with jubilee bracelet, white gold bezel, and white dial w/romans.
Can this work as an everyday classic watch? Is fluted bezel dressy? OP just feels like an entry level compromise, which I might later regret over 3 grand.

Yes - I used to be in PE and this watch would work fine. Also, as you likely have observed, a lot of finance / PE and turnaround guys wear the Submariner. You might think about a used Submariner. Check out Fourtane’s in Carmel for a well curated selection.

Congratulations, you've just insulted the majority of Rolex owners.

Well, you're 24. Without knowing much, style, personality, etc, I'd go with one of the following (I'll add that I also think you should go 39mm as 36 does end up looking a bit small):

36mm:
Explorer 114270 (pre-owned)
OP 36 (silver dial, gold markers)
Datejust 36 (fluted, jubilee, light color dial)

39mm
Explorer 214270
Datejust 41 (smooth, jubilee, black or blue dial)

That's why you're looking at steel DJ?

Joking aside, I often hear that from people and it always makes me chuckle.

Whoever in their right mind doesn't think that someone able to spend $6k on a watch isn't able to spend $7k, $9k or even more?

I have an OP36 and it's one of my favourite watches out of my collection. Collection is the key word here.

Most people that you see run around with Submariners, GMT's (even DJ's) only have that one watch and most often they 'barely scraped together' to get it (as you so eloquently put it).

I know of at least 5 people in my 'circle' that wear a Submariner as their only watch. 3 of them have financed it.

Once I was at a social function and one of the above made the same snobby comment how the OP was the cheap entry range of Rolex while he proudly flexed his Sub. By the way, that is the behavior of a "typical Sub-wearer" in Northern Europe I've learned.

As I don't need to brag or find enjoyment in putting others down I just agreed and said: I know it's just an entry model, it doesn't have the chromalight lume as yours, a rotating bezel or divers extension in the clasp but I enjoy it for what it is.

My good friend that knows us both laughed and said "didn't you have to finance your watch? and don't you (me) also have like 10 other Rolexes?

The look on his face though. Priceless.
