Has your grail Rolex shifted in current availability?

I hear many folks “giving up” on their grails these days or perhaps going to other brands. Are you still holding strong?

If you don’t mind mentioning, be interesting to hear what they are too!

Still waiting on a Pepsi. Not giving up. It's not about money but getting a forever watch from the authorized dealer directly.

Nope. Grail still there. Not sure I’ll ever see it at retail, I know I could pick one up brand new on the gray market, it’s not the premium that stops me, just really want to be able to say I got it by waiting patiently and being appreciated. It’s more fun. But I guess ultimately if that doesn’t work out, at some point I will buy gray. But that’ll take some of the joy out of the hunt. So for now I am waiting.

Although the wait times seem a lot longer, I am going to try and hold strong any wait for IT.:)

Waiting out for a Pepsi was made bearable by picking up a Tudor GMT in the interim. Stellar watch in its outright, just isn't the Pepsi. I guess you could argue the Tudor was a slump buster so not quite holding strong, but still determined to pay retail for it.

You’ll get there eventually, but you may need to keep spending

My grail is the 116610LV, which is why I bought it grey 2.5 years ago. No chance at any AD I contacted.

The only watch I still want is the SS BLRO and although it like it enormously, I can imagine my life without one and I am prepared to wait my turn at the AD.

Waiting for a BLRO, not expecting it any time soon although my SA did get me the new Submariner within 3 weeks of launch so there is hope that one will come through at some point.

Maybe 2021 will be my year.

Yes, both price and availability have shifted. I'm glad I already own it.

No grails here as I have owned them all and most a few times. I think it is about balancing my collection and making sure my watches get worn and enjoyed in time. I have also not bought a Rolex from an AD in several years as I refuse to play the games. I pay fair market Grey prices and do not mind as I get the watches I want when I want them. Another thread involving money when you talk about the Grey market and holding out for an AD. Money does play into our decisions but it is down the list of factors for me. It is almost like reading code when posters say they will not go to the Grey market, either they do not have the funds or they are looking for some version of an equity stake in the watch beyond value. It is a fun game to play but it is really not about the watches it is about the money.

A grail is a grail, it is the one, it isn’t situational. Your grail doesn’t shift due to circumstances, you want what you want whether it’s obtainable or not, that’s the nature of a grail. By definition your grail has the element of unobtainability to it, hence “The Holy Grail.” I’ll never be able to afford my grail, if I compromise on my grail then it isn’t holy any more.

My game over end grail is a white OP39 and I have it. I might just get another one for the other wrist. It was a Daytona until I got one.

Keep hope alive.

Crikey - BLRO is a grail for most it seems! Great watch but I find that surprising to be honest.

I saw that too. I'm using grail here to mean hard to get and need to fill slot in collection. Purple squirrel perhaps more than grail. It isn't worth $18-20K to me or I would just buy it like I did white Daytona.

Not giving up! This is just a short window in time, mark my words and reply during the next recession when you can get any model with a discount!

Every time I acquire a grail, a new grail presents itself...it’s a constant circle(struggle?)

No rush. No “grails” either. There are plenty I want like a new Daytona, Pepsi would be nice, Etc. Not willing to pay over retail, and quite happy to enjoy my watches that I have. There are also watches on my list that are not necessarily difficult to find, but I’m not ready to make the move such as a platinum day date with ice blue dial and blue Roman markers (228206)

Right, except that, depending on who you ask we are in a recession right now.

I personally don't think my grail has ever been a Rolex. As long as I can remember, my grail watches have always been Patek- and since they're not Nautilus/Aquanaut, no problem with the hype.

I would't call it a grail, but I'm waiting for the humble Explorer... Both ADs I am dealing with have no idea when they will get more. I have asked since Sep 1st (because I originally wanted the white dial OP, and then Rolex shocked the world).

I'd love to have it, but I may move onto something else like the Reverso, or an Omega AT... but I'll keep waiting in the meantime.

Yeah true. I mean a real recession like in 2008 where everyone across the board felt it. Those with real estate in NE metro areas lately have been seeing a lot $$$, not exactly a recession.

That's some recession. I'm waiting for a 116508 JM, just going to quit worrying about it and hopefully one day it will actually arrive...

You can always find people or sectors who make money, even in a depression. The technical definition is a total financial contraction in two consecutive quarters, which I believe we had in 2020, coupled with sky high unemployment.
I have always thought what you are saying, but I may be convinced otherwise now.
Even when everything was crumbling over the summer, you still couldn’t find these pieces at retail let alone a discount.

Not a grail but since the low availability of SS models, I purchased a CHNR rootbeer when opportunity presented itself. Never thought I would enjoy a TT model this much.

I enjoy and prefer paying MSRP for CHNR than buying the ceramic Pepsi from greys.
