Check watchrecon. The BLRO seems pretty obtainable

Only if you want to pay twice retail. Which is a little ridiculous and makes it “unobtainable” on paper (for many people).

he could have picked a Batman or Chnr. It’s the whole package , if you follow the guy closely you would know that he give great importance to the aesthetics and not only mechanics. He actually said it in his interview.

Long story short they are all great watches and everyone has their own opinion but I tend to follow legends

Most Rolexes are going for well above msrp and people are still paying for them. My CHNR was $14500 and are now going for $18500 on the secondary market. A new sub ND is $8100 but going for $13500 on the secondary market and so on and so on. The price of convenience is making everything unobtainable for the average joe and that's unfortunate.

Great watch and congratulations but who cares what anyone has to say about what is only a color choice.

I have no idea who Philip Dufour is.

BLRO is a very nice watch but is overhyped with its salmon and purple bezel.

What matters is none of the above, if you like it then fantastic. No need to apologize to us. Enjoy and wear it in good health.

Well, I actually recall him specifically stating his intention to purchase the BLRO once announced at Basel 2018. CHNR was released at the same time, but he went to his local AD and asked about the BLRO availability. I think it was in his interview with Tim Mosso.

Congrats OP! Love my BLRO

I’m not debating that he obviously likes the BLRO, I’m debating that it gives any validity to that watch over the CHNR, which is the same watch. People can buy what they like, but it’s foolhardy at best to think it’s any “better”.
It’s like saying Ralph Lauren was wearing black denim pants, so they are obviously better than blue denim pants.
I actually like both and own neither, just find it interesting that consumers can be so easily influenced. I always wondered why brands pay celebrities millions for endorsements....now I understand!

you are right Celebrities create hype but don't compare them to this guy he is not being paid or anything. for me at least I am sure this guy can see things that I can't see in watches and I admire his creations and overall taste in watchmaking.

but I personally disagree that its just a different pants color. AP, Rolex, PP, JLC they all share same movements across different models but that does not mean they are same.

for me the Pepsi and CHNR are completely different watches, they only share movement and model type.

This completely. I’ve owned both and can confirm, they feel totally different.

Two things: I wasn’t debating which watch was, as you put it, “better.” Second, to my best knowledge, Rolex has not paid PD as a “celebrity.” Even so, despite being the greatest watchmaker of our time, he likely would be overlooked by most modern day “collectors” if they passed him on the street.

I think you missed the point. It says a lot for a man like PD, with his knowledge, influence and understanding of mechanical watches to see the BLRO and be motivated enough to stroll down to his local AD, and request to purchase said watch. To my knowledge, he hasn’t done that often, and to me, it speaks volumes about the reference.

To another point, that’s a much more powerful endorsement (to me at least) than brand ambassador Dominic Thiem raising the US Open trophy while wearing a Rolex YM as a brand ambassador... He actually is paid to endorse whatever Rolex tells him to wear.

You made the right decision... the Pepsi is the only GMT worth owning. The original, and the best.

Amen. The PD endorsement is about as high praise as any watch can receive. His other pic for best modern watch, according to what he returned from the safe with when Hodinkee interviewed him, was the ALS Datograph.

The Rolex Pepsi and ALS Datograph, the man has fine taste indeed.

You said they are “completely” different, and I can’t figure out how.
Is the lv sub a different watch than a regular sub date?
You are calling the BLRO and CHNR completely different, and I see them just as I would see a model of a car in different colors and options...same car, different look.
Is a Porsche Carrera S in silver with black interior a completely different car than a Carrera S in yellow with tan interior?
This is fascinating

For me it’s more like comparing Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 both share the same engine and both are cars but look and feel completely different another example AP 15500 vs AP15450 although the are almost identical but still two different watches. In watch industry a single change in one element of the watch ( dial , bezel , bracelet, weight of the watch )is significant enough to change the feeling of the whole watch. In this particular case all of the above elements have changed.

Congrats. I traded the BLNR on oyster as part of a deal to get the BLRO. I have no regrets. Although, I wish the colors were a tad bit brighter.
