Genuine 16710 insert, or no?

I think I already know the answer to this question, but thought I would ping the group...my concern is that the insert, which is faded, seems to have both serif and sans serif fonts...the watch is a P-serial 16710.

I think the only way to tell if it's an original Pepsi bezel is to have the original paperwork with the "b".

my concern is that the "2" and the "1" in both the #10 and #12 do not appear to have any serif...

SO, here is the full story. I bought the watch of ebay (i know, i know), last week for what I felt was a good price. The reason I was willing to spring for it was because the seller indicated that he had purchased it from DavidSW in August, and that it had been serviced and was functioning perfectly. When I received the watch, I took it to our local AD and they timed it at +23 seconds a day. They opened the caseback and noted that there were no service marks, the oil was dry and dirty, and there were some metal filings in it.

So...i'm trying to ascertain whether it makes sense to just return it and move on, or service it and not know what they'll really find once they take it apart. I called DavidSW and he said he did recall selling the watch, but it was a straight trade. It clearly wasn't serviced.

You mention the insert but was the watch sold as being recently serviced? Assuming it's authentic (and I'm sure was verified when the case was opened) have your ad service the movement and enjoy your watch.

Yes, the seller claimed it had been recently serviced…in August, by DavidSW. The A.D. opened the case back and looked at the movement and didn't say anything other than it was dirty and there were some metal shavings in there. I guess that would lead me to believe that it is genuine, otherwise wouldn't I have been told? a concern I would have is if there are junk parts in there… But if the watch actually did come from David I would hope not...

Take it to a trusted watch maker and have it serviced. I would assume you would have been able old if it was fake when it was opened up. Seeing as it was originally sold from a trusted seller just get it serviced and enjoy.

I believe that's what I would do. And steer clear of ebay unless you want to keep doing this over and over.

Way TOO MANY IFs, MAYBEs, SUPPOSEDLYs, etc. You should be enjoying this "new" watch, not tormenting yourself about its authenticity or verifying claims by the seller.

If the seller indicated RETURNS ACCEPTED, no-brainer choice for me.

It sounds like the watch is "Significantly Not As Described" so if you open a case with ebay, you should have no trouble returning the watch.

That said, if you like the watch and the price that you paid plus the cost of a proper servicing still equals a good deal, I would consider keeping it.
