My first Rolex!

Hi guys,

My birthday is just around the corner and after speaking with my father, he decided that he wanted to buy me watch that would last my lifetime. I instantly decided I wanted a Rolex just because of the brand name. However once I started to research on various forums and YouTube channels such as TGV and FedericoTalks Watches. I started to respect the horological art that goes into making one of these watches. I started looking into Omega's as well as IWC. However after much deliberation I decided to go for a DateJust. I nosed around the Rolex website and used their fantasic watch configuration tool. This was my original configuration...

Having read many threads/posts by the users on TRF suggesting that you should always view a watch before buying, I headed to my local AD to have a look.
As a fairly young guy I didn't think I would be taken seriously at the AD. However the service was fantastic, the SA was great, helpful and knowledgable. They didn't have the exact model in store but they had simmilar watches. I decided there and then that the a 41mm DateJust is just far too big for my wrist and that the 36mm is perfect. I also fell in love with the fluted bezel and oyster bracelet. Both of which I really didn't like before I saw in person!

I then pondered through the Rolex brochure the SA provided me with and went through the Rolex configurator again. Now I just couldn't decide on the dial, Black, Silver or Champagne.
However I am now delighted to show you my first Rolex
(Cue the rubbish iPhone pics)

I think that the 36mm was the right choice. TGV over at The Urban Gentry sure did have a factor in this decision ;)

I have to say a massive thank you to all the forum users who's opinons/expertise/experience really helped me decide on the perfect watch. As well as appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into one.

If any of you guys have any experience with watch insurance in the UK, please check out my other thread:https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=554656

Thanks

Great choice, and treasure the time with the old man. Not the watch, the time.

Huge congratulations! There's nothing quite like the experience and research that goes into deciding on and acquiring your first Rolex. Enjoy the stunning Datejust in the best of health.

I'm really glad to have a fantastic relationship with my dad. This quote speaks a thousand words to me.
I've even considered having an engraving on the caseback, but I just can't decide what to have!
