Trade daytona for a patek?

Hi Guys,

This is my first post, however I am a long time lurker and appreciate everyone's feedback and information. I am fairly new to the watch world. Currently have only one watch in my collection. It is the Rolex Daytona White dial reference 116500. I like the watch and have worn it everyday, but I have always been curious about other watch brands and am currently looking at the possibility of trading the Daytona for a Patek Calatrava, the reference is 5107J + $6,000 cash. I know it isn't in the same category but I do work in an office setting and feel I might enjoy it a bit more.

I know it's hard to say if I will regret the trade or not. I did get the Daytona at MSRP. Is this something you would do?

I would much rather have the Daytona than that Patek (others would be a different story)

It is always a matter of taste, but I would not swap for Calatrava. They are as well very easy to find on the market and you can always reconsider in the future.

Keep the 'tona and buy the PP.
You'll regret parting with the Rolex.

ABSOLUTELY NO!!!!!!!

Patek is not as reliable, and it is $18k used for the Patek whereas the Daytona is ~$24k. So they OWE YOU $6000 to make the trade. Personally, i wouldn't bother with Patek as collected Pateks for decades, yet their quality has gone downhill while service times are now exceedingly too long. Sold most of them and now staying with Rolex due to high reliability and fast service times.

Your trade deal is a rip-off (for you). Please, don't do it as they are taking advantage of you imho.

I am a huge fan of Patek. However, do not trade the Daytona for that specific Patek.

I wouldn't make that trade at all. Keep the Daytona. Regret is not a nice feeling at all.

I agree with everyone else.

If you HAVE to make a change for the office, fit the daytona with a leather strap and call it a day. The wait time for the daytona is years my friend. You won't be able to reverse this mistake when you realize it's too late.

I feel like I'd get bored of a Calatrava rather quickly.

+1.
Daytona will be worth two calatravas before you know it.
And I say this as big fan of the WG calatrava.

Nope!

If you really want something different, sell the Daytona, and take the $6k and add something you would love.

i would not trade.

if you have the itch gnawing at you then try to own both the patek and daytona while you decide, you can always sell the daytona at a later date, for a profit, if you still feel the same way.

add a patek when the time is right and have a perfect duo.

the daytona is the perfect everyday any circumstance watch, it is an anchor in a small collection.

My ultimate goal is to have a Rolex and a Patek. I also really love that 5107J because I love the crown guards.

A quick search on Chrono 24 shows that the deal is a total rip off and bad for the OP.

I love the Patek but its a bad trade for sure.

You’d be trading a white hot watch, plus money, for an ice cold watch. Don’t get me wrong, the Calatrava is a terrific dress watch, but anyone can source one.

Its two COMPLETELY different considerations. Some guys love the classic sport watch Daytona. While others want the full on classic classic Patek. To me, if I could only have one, then I would go with the Rolex. They rarely break and service is quick (about 60-90 days). When you need a Patek serviced, they take the fricking watch away from you for like 9 months. I kid you not.
