Intrinsic value of a gold Rolex case and bracelet ~$5,000.

The fact is, the name on the dial is irrelevant. Gold is gold. The watch is always worth something, and should he need to ever cash out, he will have a much easier time selling, as worst case, he can scrap it and sell the movement! A DJ movement sells for $1,500-2000. Add in the scrap gold and boom you’ve got a winner.

People here are giving horrible advice. this watch has lost all the value it will ever lose, and people are telling him to buy models that have never been more expensive.

I was taught to buy at the bottom of the market. And I’ve never lost money on a watch.

As for the Daytona market, this has been nothing more than fools with money for years, and really a niche. Look at solid gold DateJusts on presidential bracelets, they’re still 2-300% of their SS counterparts. Which again, puts this in the great deal category.
I made my point and stand by it informed by many years of collecting as well.

I'm not sure we value vintage Rolex watches by the intrinsic value of their parts.

If we do, I'll have Paul Newman's Paul Newman for 200 bucks, please. And I'll even stretch to a few grand for the gold Bao Dai Moonphase.

We’re not even talking about collectible Rolexes here. And not both are vintage. I was simply disputing the claims that the OP should go buy a watch(that isn’t even readily available in ADs) made from SS and lacks a date when he’s been offered a gold Rolex for its intrinsic value. Nobodies got a crystal ball, but Rolex isn’t on its way up forever, not every model is going to be collectible in the future. But gold has always carried value and if he decides to flip in the near future (which was stated as a possibility) he’s got a much less chance of loss on the gold Rolex with a high intrinsic value vs the stainless model with no intrinsic value

Pardon my ignorance, just trying to help a guy get the most value for his money.

And seems like from your post intended on disputing me, really strengthens my sentiment that getting a Rolex for its intrinsic value is pretty wild and most people would hop all over that deal
