Interested in Oyster date 6694 or oyster perpetual date 1501
Hi everyone,
Like many here, at the entry lvl entry pricepoint, I am interested in purchasing a 6694 or 1501. I think these are charming watches and have decided that the 34 mm size should be fine for a vintage piece. I don't mind the non-COSC 6694 so I think it is probably the better buy for me. I was hoping to find a nice SS blue dial with an engine turned bezel... The only thing close I cam finding is the one posted for sale here that is a 6694 with a jubilee bracelet, blue dial, and no engine turned bezel. I can't post a link unfortunately because I do not have enough posts - but the listing is from Nov. 19th, 2019. Does this watch seem like a decent purchase? And is it a reputable seller (CoinWatchCo) If anyone is selling or knows of another nice 6694 or 1501 for sale please let me know! Also if there is anything that I should especially watch out for with these watches as I'm not a terribly experience vintage collector at this point. Thanks for your imput. Really have appreciated this forum for its collective wealth of information. |

a 6694 with a jubilee bracelet doesnt sound correct. It should be come on an oyster bracelet.
I believe both the 6694 and 1501 dont come with engine turned bezel, only smooth bezels. You would probably need to look at the DJ 1601/1603/1603x for that bezel you want. |

Thanks for the reply. Ahh maybe I should be looking at the 160x DJs. I'm not opposed to the smooth bezel, but just want something a little different in my collection and an engine turned or fluted bezel would be better.
Thanks again. |

For me the bezel and bracelet must "match"
Fluted bezel - Jubilee Fluted bezel - President Engine turn bezel - Jubilee Smooth Bezel - Oyster Smooth Bezel - President |

Having owned several of the 34mm models, I would suggest moving up to the Datejust. 36mm is vintage small these days. Shopping for Datejust is a blast with all the options. I really missed the daily search after finally deciding on my black dial 16013.

A 6694 came with a tapered oyster bracelet.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but in case anyone else is checking 6694s did come on Jubilee bracelets, all be it rarely. I have one from 1965, bought new by my dad with a Jubilee.

What kind of jubilee is that, from 1965? Can you show a photo from the side and also of the numbers on the clasp. I'm really curious.

Yes correct the Jubilee was changed by RSC as the original had long gone (stretched and broken). Dial and hands changed but RSC gave me the originals back. I obviously wanted to keep those and wanted a watch that would last decades more. Had it been something like a Milsub etc I would have kept it original!
Edit: the original bracelet was also a Jubilee. Have a pic of my dad wearing it in '72 and clearly was a Jubilee :) |
