Hello,

I have a red sub 1680, all the 6's and 9's are open except for 26. Any ideas? It is the silver date wheel with black numbers, I assume original.

Haha. I was just researching the same thing this morning. I was somewhat surprised to see my new 1977 1675 has an OPEN 26 when it clicked over this morning. I think people are going to tell you that Rolex made them both ways during some transitional periods, but I don't know for sure. I did a google search this morning and found a bunch of pics with both configurations for 26.

My 6 is open on my meters first Red sub on 26...original silver date wheel (looks white in pic but is silver). Would be cool to discover what determined why certain date wheels were used...maybe whatever they had laying around at the time

Yep, they made them both ways. Somebody here has a photo of the date wheel itself with all open sixes except for the 26, just like yours. Every six on my 1974 1680 is open. Not sure when or why they did it that way.

Yes, my 77 1680 has closed 26, the one "open 6" day of the month that doesn't mean much. Still don't understand why they did it!

This is the post I found this morning. It is for the 1675, but still interesting to see the differences in the photo of all the wheels.

All other sixes are open including 16. I was shocked when I woke up yesterday, as I've only had the watch 3 days. Being non-quick, I haven't had the time to spin the dial yet. Will let you know.

Yeah! That's the old post I was referring to, thanks for finding it. It's really interesting. The mysterious ways of Rolex.

(I'll bet that when they made the minute changes in the date wheels back in the 1970's they never would have thought that 40 years later there would be a bunch of watch geeks talking about it on the interwebs.)
