Someone says Rolex...You think what?

What does the word Rolex mean to you? What does it bring to mind, make you feel?

Has this word changed its meaning or does is it still mean the same?

Does who's wearing it or talking about it change what it represents or does Rolex transcend all context?

Just a few questions to guide but please ask and answer your own, thanks

Not sure, but I can tell you what I think about. I think back in my mid 20's and I was living in Florida. I wanted to mark an occasion by finally jumping in the deep end of the pool and get a Rolex that I have been thinking about for months, a 14060M.

I tried on that model and the Sub Date maxi case and opted to go for the more classic design. One because it was classic and more importantly at the time, it was about $800 USD less.

I still have it and will likely be the last one standing, if it ever came to that.

Overpriced.

Personally, I don't think they are worth the current asking prices on the reseller market.

Great question...

Reminds me of my Dad, who wore a classic Oyster Perpetual back in the 60's and 70's as his one and only watch. It's the only reason I have a Rolex. Mine a Sub Date that was a gift from my wife for a milestone anniversary. I once told her of my Dad's Rolex and what it meant to him and me growing up, so that's what she bought me. Otherwise, the brand itself does little for me.

A Rolex is more than a watch, it is a state of mind. Buy the first one, enter the club and you'll understand what I mean.

A few years ago I ran into a former girlfriend from my high school days. I felt proud when she noted my DJ and said "Wow...a Rolex! You have arrived." And then she blew all that away by saying "I don't know what you guys see in those big, clunky looking watches".

So, I guess for me Rolex says "big clunky arrival".
