Submariner anchors (discontinue date)

Does anyone know when Rolex discontinue giving these Sub anchors out?

My 1999 sub came with one... do they actually serve a purpose or is it just a cool thing that comes in the box?

Why did they stop making them? Can't be a cost issue, I think they went well with the sub package!

Well in the real world what was they good for it was just pure marketing and they were not the best of quality quite cheap looking base metal object and of no real use for anything. I gave a few away to forum members a few years back it was around 2005 they disappeared from the Rolex diving watches. And many years ago now while working as a dive guide after a days diving we all met up for a drink in a local bar.And one guy turned up with a Rolex anchor on a chain round his neck, thought to myself what a complete Pratt a bit like he was underwater.

My 16610 I bought back in 1999 had one. I never took it out of the box. I always just thought it was a cool "extra" they put in the box to justify the price. I never took it out of the box!

If you keep it in proximity to your watch it will keep time better. Honest.

My dad had one, and it had to be surgically removed from the family cat's left eye. So we sued Rolex in late 2003 and they stopped giving it out starting in 2004.

That's what I thought but not if you ever put your key chain in your pocket. Way too sharp IMHO.
