1953 Brevet????

Forgive the ignorance as this is only my 2nd vintage Rolex (I hope it is anyway) but can anyone tell me why there is not a serial number on the watch case? The only thing engraved is "Brevet" between the lugs on the 12 o'clock end of the watch. Thoughts? Attached is a picture just taken.

The serial number may still be there, just super light from wear over the years. If it has been in fact sanitized then I would move along. Where it says Brevet, the model number should be just below that and the serial number on the opposite side of the case.
Look at this case, if you look close you can see the model number and serial number. They are quite worn though.

Thanks so much.

Offrdmania,
Thanks so much for the help. I will try to find a magnifying glass as my eyes are not what the used to be. I bought the watch at auction (www.lelandlittle.com) last week so its mine. No regrets either way but I would like to know if all the parts are original or if any have been altered in any way. Do you know what band would have been original with the watch? This band is brand new.

I just got a vintage Air King Date. The serial number was extremely faint. I had to use a very strong light and a loop. I also had to wiggle the watch under the light so it hit it just right and then the number was still faint, but there.
