Hi Rolex lovers!

I have a beautiful GMT MASTER 1675/3 from 73' serviced at RSC and I just recieved an "offer" to exchange it for a 17' 116710LN brand new.

I'm out of my mind because I love the new one, but I would not want to regret myself later.

What do you think about??

Your watch is worth more for sure. I wouldn't if I were you.

Of course it’s a personal decision but I think you have a gorgeous classic from the heyday of the brand. If it were me, no way I’d trade it in for that clunky modern GMT. The proportions are weird and a vintage Rolex on a jubilee is going to be about 1000 times more comfortable than that gigantic new one on an oyster. Good luck with your decision!

Good advice and I fully agreed that the vintage will wear more comfortable on yu wrist. This is one of my reason why I change my modern Rolex to vintage as well.

That’s a beautiful and rare 1675/3 in great condition. Replacing it if you don’t like the new one will be very hard indeed.

Personally I wouldn’t do the swap as it would feel like a down grade to me.

If it was a dealer that made the offer they know yours is worth more than the new one...

They’re very different watches. The SM is certainly more fashionable currently but it’s also common. The GMT, on the other hand, is unusual and I really feel that these brown and gold watches of the ‘70s are just now starting to be appreciated. They used to remind me of sleazy coke dealers but now they have a retro vibe that is super cool. Only you know your fashion sense but if it were me, I’d rock it every day...and think about growing a ‘stache.

For the reasons already given.

By the way, I prefer the 4 (or 5, which is not the case here) design over the 6. And the GMT root bear of yours is, to my eyes, even more aesthetic and subtile than the TT submariner. Your model is my favorite two tones.

You have managed to keep this classic watch in a great shape, congratulations! Continue doing that...

I would not for a new LN, but maybe consider it for a BLNR. Your example is in great condition and such a classic, it'll be hard to get it back later. The LN on the other hand could be found for MSRP if you looked around. I saw one sitting in a showcase last week walking around Taipei where SS models are impossible to come by. That tells a lot re: demand for the LN.

The watch you have has so much more style and character than the new one its insane. Root beers are high on the style meter. As a guy, we have limited jewelry we can rock and nothing is more important than a watch, what do you want to say about yourself?

It is a nice new Rolex, but there are lots out there and it will also not likely appreciate for about 20-40 years or something.

BTW, You're asking the vintage group here so no one will tell you do the trade.

You’ll regret it very fast. You have an iconic piece that will be insanely hard and expensive to replace. New watches have nothing on yours.

Beautiful Root Beer 1675! This is one of my grail watches, especially with the Jubilee bracelet. I've always loved this model ever since I first saw one in the 1980's. No way I would ever trade it in on a new LN. Even IF the value of the LN was higher, I still wouldn't trade since I really love the look of the Root Beer much more. I'm glad you decided to keep it. Hopefully someday I will own one myself!

You have to ask yourself why is someone offering the trade? It’s because your vintage GMT is more collectible / wanted.

Also, you can always get a new GMT, Rolex hasn’t stopped making them. So, this offer doesn’t have an expiration date.

Last, you have to project what’s the lost future appreciation on your vintage GMT. In five years, you don’t want to be the guy saying: ‘can you believe I traded my vintage GMT for a new one? Look at what the vintage GMT is worth now! I really made a bad decision!’.

I too had considered this with my own Rootbeer I got from my Dad. He, in fact suggested it. I just can't do it. Love the watch and the memories associated with it and will purchase a new one when I have the money. Or not as the case may be (2 teenagers in HS, 1 in college). That is a beautiful watch you have there. Maybe just save towards another.
