Fliplock Differences

Why do some some fliplock clasps on older bracelets have lines on them and some don't? Is it based on replacements? Certain years or models? Something else?

This difference is what I mean:

Does anyone know when the Sub clasps started to feature the super short fixed link on the end?

Based on the many Subs and GMTs that I have owned, the fliplock with the two etched lines in it was introduced around 1985/86 with the higher 8 million serial numbers.
