Does rolex gold fade?

I gotta say- the more I look at Rolex watches in rose gold, the more I love the color! However, I've heard that rose and white gold will fade over time with use. Is there any truth to this?

Also, does anyone know the composition to Rolex rose gold? 75% gold, 25% copper, I assume?

Hi and welcome to TRF.

Rolex now use only 18K gold so I see no reason for fading. Just a normal soap and water wash using a soft toothbrush should keep any Rolex metal in pristine condition for years.

Everose was created in-house at Rolex by mixing 18k gold, copper and a touch of platinum. Chlorinated water reacts with the copper in the alloy of traditional rose gold and breaks it down, stripping the metal of its luster. Not so with the Everose... as the name implies... Ever :)

I have one Rose gold chain that belonged to my Grandfather its from the late 1890s thats still got its Rose gold colour today. And have worn it for the past 30 odd years in salt water and pool waters and every day life.So I have every reason Rolex gold or any other gold would do likewise.

Real gold never really fades. Some alloys might have a slight tendency to change, but it isn't something I've ever seen. BTW, I'm wearing a 50's TOG in 14k two tone and it's as gold-colored as ever.

JJ, nice to see your posts, as always. Over 74,000 posts? That's gotta be a record, cannot imagine anyone beating that.

Why would anybody dig out a 2 year old thread and then answer it with a stupid reply like that?

And no Carl, I don't mean you.

Just what is the point of resurrecting this old thread if your not going to post something constructive to that post.If you want to post a reply like yours above might I suggest you try the joke forum, here is one not amused.
