Does Rolex do this?

I was at the Panerai Boutique in Beverly Hills today. Frankly I was underwhelmed as they had only a few displays with a total of about 8 watches out. They have more but they don't display them. Anyhow, the rep told me that with Panny's 2yr warranty, when it's about to expire, just bring it in and they'll send it to the service center for a free tune-up. Does Rolex do that? I didn't buy anything but they did give me a couple of catalogs and a hardcover panerai book...pretty cool.

simple answer no! but will carry out regulation/tune up if within warranty period and there are issues. is this not the same just the AD's/boutiques twist on it

I don't think Rolex would do a tune-up they seem to think tune-ups are not needed unless something is wrong with the watch. I called the Dallas RSC a year ago requesting a dial swap on a Two-Tone. It was like pulling teeth, the Rolex rep. on the phone said Rolex does not like to even open the case back (exposing the movement) of a new Rolex for at least a year of normal use (I don’t see the big deal about this) I have read where our forum members have sent a Rolex off after a year usually for a timing issue and Rolex repaired and then buffed out the watch making it look new for free. Other that a free Rolex cloth and a catalog I don’t think Rolex likes to do anything without getting paid.

What does a "Tune-up" mean? If the watch is running fine why mess with it?

if "tune-up" means a check and maybe regulation, then it all sounds reasonable.....

i dun expect a "tune-up" to be a full service of cos........ :)

I would think that lubrication is the most essential part, and likely the reason my SMP is currently losing 28sec/day. It's going in for service after I get my Sub. Around $350, the darn Helium Valve adds $55 to the cost!

Routine maintenence=tune-up. Just sent 2 in. 1 for the 1st time (7 years) and one for the 2nd time (17 years). Seems about right. Both of mine were running well within the standards but you need to replace parts and get lubed to keep it going for a long, long time.

I just don't understand why a watch would require a "service"(tune-up?) within the first 2-years of use, if its running fine. Seems like overkill, as factory lubes don't dry out in first 2-years of service.

Hmmm... usually 'free' tuneups carry with them the opportunity for mfg's to 'find' other problem areas that require your money to resolve. Does that sound negative? Could or could not be the case with Panerai...

Did you ask them? :)

This wasn't at an AD, this was the Panerai Boutique.

Well, as you all know, Rolex is opening a store (yup, Rolex, not AD but factory) in CA next year; let's see what happens.
