Submariner Twin-lock Case Tube Information

Hey Guys:

After going through the motions of returning my 1970 vintage 5513 to "original" I wanted to post some details that might help others...

The crown, stem and case tube must all match to make things work. I have found 2, if not 3, different versions of the "twin-lock" 24-7000 case tube from Rolex. That doesn't even include the after-market versions.

The correct crown is referenced 24-700....

Broaching tools may or may not be required to insert/clean the tube once it is attached to the case....just depends on which tube you get to use....

Old thread, but trying to make my 67 5513 as waterproof as possible also with the original twinlock crown that it came with. I have managed to find a 24/7000 case tube that does not have splines. It does not have a case to case tube washer or gasket like the latter ones and I understand that they did not originally come with one BUT, seeing as when Rolex changed them over to triple lock crowns they would have ended up using said washer anyway, what is to stop us from using the washer from the newer casetube with the old casetube. Sounds like I am rambling....

The outer case to tube gasket should work from 703/704 to 700.. both OD measure approximately 3mm.

IMO that is the least important gasket..

I am sure that most watchmakers would insert the case tube using some Loctite thread locker...

This would be better than an O-ring at the base of the case tube/case interface IMHO.

It would never be better than the complete Trip-Lock system but it is not "original" to the pre-1973 Sub 5513's...
