Only a couple of regrets selling/trading-in watches.

One was trading in my faithful Tudor 79090 for a same year 16610 (plus some $ of course). I could have bought the Rolex straight away, but felt more comfortable letting the Tudor go... I wish I had kept it.

Second is worse. I sold a '78 5513 (superdome, lollipop/maxi matte dial) in incredible condition to fund the purchase of a Reverso. Ilove the Reverso, but could have bought it without selling the Sub. It seemed like a good idea at the time as I sold for almost twice what I had paid for it.

But today that 5513 has again duplicated it's value from what I got.

These days I try not to sell anything unless it's strictly necessary.

Not buying a y serial 16610lv for $5400 and crush first came out. At least I bought a 16710 pepsi for $3000 instead.

My biggest mistake was getting involved with watches to start with. As a hobby, watch collecting has been great.

Sadly too many. I regret everyone that I sold. At the time it seemed like a good idea.

I think this sometimes too, Omega was first then IWC. But if I'd started with Rolex I think I'd only have Rolex, given to how I've taken to them since getting mine. I am glad to have the brand diversity I have knowing my next watches will likely all be Rolex.

Whenever I have made a significant purchase, other pieces I have wanted for a while seem to pop up for sale. Kills me every time. Timing is everything...

After reading some of these posts, I'd like to think that it takes a strong stomach and thick skin to be a watch lover.

Trading in my first Rolex 16613 after many years of daily wear on a YM that was quickly flipped. I have had 2 more 16613's since then and it is still one of my favorite references. Really wish I would have kept my first.
In the early to mid 90's a good friend owned a small shop and had Rolex parts account and was trading a lot of vintage Rolex. He was always offering great deals on vintage Subs, GMT's, Daytona's...at the time I was into the current models and had no love for vintage. Now I prefer vintage over modern and as we all know the vintage $ market has changed so much. Really missed out on some great watches and some great investments.
The 2 that stand out the most--if I remember correctly. A 6263 big red Daytona for $1100 and a 6538 big crown Bond Sub for 2k...

Mine was purchasing a quartz Cartier tank solo. I still think Cartier Tank Americains in automatic in solid gold are a beautiful classic piece. Their was regret on this purchase by the time I got it home and I took one heck of hit on it when I traded it for the a 14060M. Fortunately, the 14060M has risen in value since then and I would get most of the loss back if I were to let it go.

Its all learning!

I had a 5513 and polished the crystal with a dremel. Needless to say it needed a new one in about half a second.
