Oh no.
I bought a 40mm Panerai, took me several years to rid it at 65% loss.

Biggest regret is not really my fault but my main Rolex AD (who I had a a fantastic relationship) lost its AD status so currently I'm not on a list for the new Daytona C :(

What's the dumbest move you've made while collecting.

I'm surprised no one had posted this :

Had flipped a lot, but so far no major losses or regrets!!!

Not buying a complete LV and 16600 sd earlier.

Spending too much money on kid priced watches and not saving it for a Rolex.

Not getting into Tudor sooner. Especially the vintage Tudor.

I can't say there is anything I regret, but there is much I have learned.

Tastes change and overtime I have lost a fair amount of money trading, selling, buying etc.

It really comes down to buying right, which means really buying at prices that are usually MUCH lower than what we consider a "good deal" from a trusted seller. I now realize that it takes patience (which I do not have), and time to find the VERY best prices. Especially, as collections start to move towards very expensive pieces, there is only more money to lose.

Like I said, I don't regret any of it, but I have learned from it. There also comes a point that you only need so many pieces, and that is going to be different for everyone, but quantity does not make one more happy than quality which one truly uses IMO.

Buying a watch that didn't sing to me. Flipped it a few months later and a few dollars poorer.

No regrets but learning.

Buying my first Rolex from an AD paying full price. I know better and past two purchases have been from trusted sellers.

I regret not buying a BNIB GMT Master(pepsi) in 1983 for $625. I had just got promoted and it was in the Air Force base exchange in Germany. I was trying to decide how to reward myself for the promotion and I passed on the GMT. It would be such a great vintage watch to have these days. Cheers, Tim

Was looking for a TT DJ II with white stick markers. Bought one with diamond markers. Had doubts about the diamonds, but it was in stock. Later flipped, at a loss, for the one I originally wanted. Lesson learned...have patience....

What's the dumbest move you've made while collecting.

Buying a Rolex TT Sub on eBay and when I received it realizing it was a Fake!

Fortunately, I disputed the charge, got my money back and smashed the Fake with a hammer!

Selling my Y series 16610 to fund a TT yacht master that I flipped two months later and was scammed with a bad cashiers check.

Not only did I lose the 16610 I loved, but I lost all the money I paid for the YM only two months later.

Live and learn. At the time, that was a huge expense.

Absolutely this. Buying an omega and then flipping it for another omega then a third omega before I realized where the light was.

I don't have major regrets, just learning experiences. I've said it a couple times before, but buying watches on "hype" and not trying them on first is something I'll never do again. I bought the Tudor Pelagos before Tudor came back to the US. I found a dealer with one, and bought it. It sounded good on paper, but was way too big for me. I'd worn other 42mm watches, but this was a lot taller than anything else. Never again!

Also, buying what I could afford now, not waiting for what I want. Currently saving and saving, keeping away from picking up something that I'll probably want to flip in a month or two.

What's the dumbest thing you've done in regards to your watches? Selling something you regretted, losing something, breaking something, or maybe not buying something? What's your biggest dumb mistake or biggest regret?

Mine is trading my first Rolex I ever owned, a TT datejust that was given to me by my dad. I know that's about as dumb as you can get, but I was young and thought I knew more than I did.

What's your biggest regret?
Buying into a rival brand who shall remain nameless. I am not here for controversy on the Rolex forum. I have confidence in Rolex as a manufacturer, this is why I do not want to start a discussion regarding the other prestigious and recognisable brand. Let me just mention this after emailing very senior people at customer care who actually emailed Switzerland head office, this brand could not explain any of the manufacturing processes regarding the watch I purchased. They could not tell me if the dial, case and bracelet was made in Switzerland at the very least or was the production officially outsourced out of Switzerland. I was treated like a corporate spy, after sending them a picture of my watch and AD papers they would not answer my questions. I have now sold the watch privately and did what I should of done in the first place and purchase a Rolex.
