White Gold
Before I start off I really hope I dont offend anyone as this is not meant to be a smart a** questions. I am just trying to understand.
Why white gold? For example, lets say the white gold sub. Why would someone pay so much more for WG that looks like SS unless compared close up? I do understand it on say a DD, you want a DD but dont like, want care for YG. In this case your only other options are WG or Plat. Any input would be appreciated. Also, for those of you with WG please understand no disrespect is meant. |

The owner knows it is WG; most others won't. It is "under the radar" and even though it looks like SS, the owner has the pride that accompanies a PM watch.

Definitely see your point of view. Same question can be asked of PT as well. As an owner of all metals, I'll give my personal perspective.
The WG has a different 'feel' than SS for certain. It also gives off a different 'intangible feel' as well (hard to describe) Definitely some pride involved in that feeling. As for some WG / PT models, the reason I have them is because the dials/colors are only available on these models, and I love them. |

White Gold
because of the weight, the feel, the warmth & the personal smug feeling.
I had a white gold panda 116509 and sold it as I was obsessed with a SS Ceramic Daytona. The 116500LN is stunning...But...it’s not as nice as a white gold Daytona so last month I bought another white gold panda Daytona. The weight, the feel and even the slight colour difference....not to mention the larger size are all miles better than SS. Here they are all with full links. Just look at the weight differences. Original Panda 116509 Ceramic SS New Panda 116509 Size difference of PM over SS [/QUOTE]

Why buy a Rolex when an Invicta looks the same from a distance?

White gold has a different appearance next to steel and also as others mentioned it feels different. It’s a low key way to have gold but not the bling attached

Different strokes for different folks OP....not everyone likes watches that can be seen across the room to let everyone know what's on their wrist. Some *gasp* actually enjoy watches for themselves and not others.

I understand this question, but if you think watches are partially jewelry....do you wonder why people buy platinum or white gold jewelry rather than stainless? How about gold plated jewelry?
I agree the premium is hard to get over, and think, for instance, the SS white Daytona C is a much better *value* than my Daytona, but I'm ok with that. Many would rather have the same budget split over a number of watches, and I can completely understand that. Or just have one watch, but get it in SS.

Two words:
Stealth. Wealth. Honestly though, a big part is because I want to wear a gold piece without calling all of the attention that yellow usually does. It's SS to everyone else in the room except the people who know watches, and those are the only people I want to impress. |

Unique colors, different hue, weight, having PM while not advertising it loudly.
I have both WG and YG and it's definitely a different experience and for different situations and moods. That's the way to do it I think. |

WG is like a sunburst dial- depending on lighting, angle, it can change looks from SS to YG and everything in between. That never gets boring.
The weight is impressive. |

If I liked the watch why would I care if it looks like steel or not? That would only matter if I was trying to impress others around me...surely you're not suggesting that as a criteria for buying a watch. |

In many countries it's not seen to be wearing any yellow gold into a place of worship. SS, platinum, white gold... shows your humility. (this is gents only, ladies don't get involvement) |

Same colour, different lustre, hue, weight, heat retention etc oh and cost. Kind of what yellow gold is to brass. What I don't understand is rhodium plating (I'm aware that Rolex doesn't do this)? I mean you aren't actually seeing the gold but a white metal coating? Sort of like pvding a gold piece to me.

I agree with most of you. White gold is understated and has a certain feeling wearing it.

I took a couple months deciding on a day date. Decided I was DEFINITELY not a yellow gold guy. It has never occurred to me that this looks anything like SS. And feel? Forget it.

Not personally a fan of white gold. If I want gold, I want it to be ... gold.
If I want a white metal than it's stainless or platinum. |

One very good piece of advice. Ask your dealer if he wouldn't mind letting you walk out into public with the yellow gold on. Tell him you'll leave your wallet, or whatever nice watch you're wearing. I took about 20 steps out into the mall, and it became immediately apparent I wasn't a yellow gold guy.

As far as I understand, white gold is a good substitute for those who suffer from the "rolex rash" due to the higher nickel content in 904L steel, while white gold does not have nickel in its composition. So aside from platinum, white gold is the only steel look-a-like that is available.
