I've been advancing my journey...I got to try on in person a couple of 5270s.
The 5270P in person, actually struck me as a little 'too non-traditional/modern". This surprised me, I really wanted to love it...but it did not 'click' for me. I also got to try on the 5270G, first edition dial! ..and I must say I loved how it looked, this surprised me too, I wasn't really thinking of that model as an option. It actually left me wondering why Patek didn't keep the series 1 dial layout for all of the 5270 series...It is great IMO The size of the 5270, which was my biggest concern, actually fit pretty nicely...it wears smaller to me than the 41mm I was worried about and I found the fit not much different than my 5170 40mm that I quite like. ....but I also have had a chance to now try on the 5970J and I must say it feels perfect (for me)...So as some had predicted...five minutes on my wrist, and I would know. I know. I want a 5970 (just not in yellow gold). So I'm on a quest to see both the 5970G and 5970P and I am likely to pick one of those... I appreciate everyone's advice and thoughts...I will update hopefully soon with a pic! |

My advice is if you got the scratch a 5970P is a watch you can’t go wrong with. Make sure it’s complete and in good shape extra solid caseback and all.
I’ve never heard anyone ever say they didn’t like the 5970 P lol

To me the 5970P is the way to go all day long. The 5270 dial lacks the pop of the former. As stated, the 5970P does not wear big unlike the 5270 which actually wears bigger than a 41mm or seems to. Its all up to you. You will be wearing it.

I’m impartial to black face white precious metal with black leather strap watches. There is something about the contrast that speaks modernity over the past 40 years, and I would bet will continue to look modern, sharp, smart and sexy for the next 200. The 5970p is a grail piece I hope to own in my lifetime. This will do till then.

Patek will rise in value years after its discontinued. The 5970P is the one to get now based on its scarcity. Wait until the 5270P discontinues and see in 5-10 years. The 41mm doesn’t wear big. If you like the salmon dial get the 5270P, otherwise go for the 5970P

Price of 5970p has been stable for 10 years already, 185-190k USD +- 5%. Just encountered one 5970p almost new condition with complete set last week. Asking price is 185k. Not too bad, but if I were to buy I would only consider 170k at max.
5270 series is pretty much doomed imo. Same logic applies to 5960. Patek should not release 5270j. Rather, they should discontinue 5270p and end the reference. Having worn both. 5970 wears better and fits comfortably. 5270 is slightly heavier but easier to tell time. My best advice. Buy what you like. Profit aside since you won’t gain any. |
