Both are gorgeous timepieces, no mistake it can be either one.

PP should cost around $10k more than Rolex.

For PP, I would rather go for 5205R (Rose gold).

It seems like you get a lots more gold from Rolex than PP, so it's more reasonable price.

Day-Date, the level of intricate manual finishing and decoration on Patek's movement is wasted on me. Plus the PP doesn't suit my lifestyle and feels more delicate than the DD. Also, I could wear the DD with any attire, even jeans and a t-shirt which I could never do with the Patek. I like Patek but I've realised they're not for me.

The 5205 blue dial looks black except under certain direct light. I was very underwhelmed by the blue in-person; I'm also just not a big fan of blue dials in general. I actually prefer the gray/black or silver/cream dial (which I got over the blue). It's comfortable and lightweight. The open lugs side-view looks great. It's hard to compare that PP with the DD; they seem so different other than price. Enjoy whichever you get!

I went with a DD because after 2 years on a wait list for a Nautilus blue dial, I decided I had enough waiting.

Tough when you have a PP 5396G for the same price

I'd buy the 5396G by a mile.

Although I'd be inclined to stretch all the way to 5172.

While these two watches are in the same ballpark price-wise, they're completely different. I think the Day-date can dress up and dress down better than the Patek, but as someone mentioned earlier in the thread the Day-date is really a sports watch that is cast in PM. It can be a daily wearer, and can go with a t-shirt or a suit. In my opinion, the Patek is a lot more refined, work really well in formal suit-and-tie settings (much better than the DD), but you would not want to wear your Patek to the beach (while the DD is totally fine in that environment). To me, this is a question of lifestyle fit as much as preference.

As echoed by everyone these are very different watches, and accomplish 2 very different things.

Personally I would choose the DD as I do not like the concave bezel on the Patek. Service costs/time out for service is also a factor. The DD won't take long to service or repair, the Patek on the other hand will.
