Very interesting stuff! Thanks for this analysis!
I know Patek (and Rolex) recently culled their AD list. I wonder if they're actively adding new ADs, still, though (i.e., those that might be *better* than the ones they culled). |

Now with a baseline pulled, it will be interesting to run the same data in 10-12 months and see if things are changing.

Funny, Rolex AD numbers resemble what Electoral College should look like.

2020 AD Update
I ran an update on the numbers from almost a year ago....
Globally the number of ADs has dropped about 8% from 421 to 387. Authorized dealers are becoming more consolidated, in other words, more ADs are owned by the same group. In the US there has been an increase by 10% in consolidation. Tourneau has the most with 7, Tiffany with 4, Watches of Switzerland with 3, and eight ADs have 2 locations. In the UK consolidation stands at almost 40%, 80% in Singapore, 100% in Russia...and globally consolidation has increased almost 15% (roughly 11% intra country and 4% inter country) so the net net is fewer ADs and the ones that are staying around are more likely to be owned by fewer people. ... |

Never thought about it but yes, the lack of ADs in France is pretty jarring compared to Germany, Switzerland and Italy. I get that the Swiss 7,7% VAT makes for mmbetter prices for French who go to Geneva, but that doesn’t explain how Germany and Italy can sustain so many ADs. |

Yes, I agree with you.
But some months ago there were one Saloon and one AD in Paris, but now just the Saloon. And , as you said, is strange that in "Costa Azzurra" and Montecarlo there are no ADs. |

Wow! That is a unique analysis of PP Ad's. I really like it, and thank you for sharing. One thing I see missing is a Patek AD in India....

Interesting but not very surprising to see the number of Patek ADs continue to drop. I suspect the trend will continue.

The moral of this story is that you had better pick a dealer that will be around long enough to fulfill your long-term requests.

All comes down to, Patek = more exclusivity + more control.
And, due to fewer ADs, much better inventory to deliver to their customers. Patek is not decreasing production. So 353 ADs (worldwide) will be allocated more pieces compare to 421 ADs couple years back.

The lack of French “doors” as PP call them, is due to the propensity of French consumers to prefer Cartier and other French luxury brands. (As told to me and others during a PP factory visit) so sales have never met expectations or justify the level of investment required by an AD.
