Boutique told me the 1661 should be available in the US beginning sometime in June-July. It was originally slated to be ready in April/May but pushed back due to factory closure.

There are a few in the wild I've seen pics of but no dealers I have found have any for sale. Guess I get to play the waiting game

I mentioned in another thread that Richemont offered me to send me one in March.

Today a grey marker dealer from Greece also offered me one with 15% discount.

Certainly a very interesting watch!
The blue lume is pretty cool.
Its always difficult to make a final view on these things until they are handled in the flesh.
Does the sapphire crystal have anti-reflection coatings?

Congrats

I though the factory was not shipping until July....
You must have got one released before the shutdown.

I'm excited for you and look forward to your thoughts

Wait a minute. In the video Rambo 99 posted lume is definitely blue for the 1661 (makes sense) but on Panerai's site it's green...

I would expect the superluminova to be glowing blue. It might be that the Panerai promotion video had a pre-production version. But at this stage the jury is out whether it glows blue or green..

Be careful when buying as I understand this watch has already been faked.

Yep ... Just today coincidentally while searching for some recent AD pics and videos I bumped into a Chinese speaking clip... Safest way to buy a Pam these days is the AD route..

One issue that is a little troubling with the 1661 and for that matter all other Carbotech cases is the warranty period.

Quote:
Carbotech is a high-tech composite material, featuring layers of carbon in alternating alignments. These come together in a high-pressure temperature-controlled environment using a binding matrix based on PEEK (polyether ether ketone). PEEK is typically used for medical implants in humans, for those who are interested in that sort of thing. For a watch such as PAM1661, there is also an interesting aesthetic component at play in terms of look-and-feel. Basically, each watch will be slightly different.
Given that Carbotech (a thermoplastic) and its layering process is a new material for watches, should Panerai not give it their 70 year warranty. Its not like it has been around for centuries or even decades like stainless steel.

The PAM1117, 1118 and 1119 are each getting 70 warranties from Panerai.

What if after 10 or 20 years the layers start to delaminate or there is some other kind of degradation to the watch cases?

It could be that you are out-a luck........

I'm glad they did, which means they have intensive testing on the material and are highly confident that its durable. I dont need to worry about my 1616 in 30 years time.

Blue i guess just like on the promo pictures it was rather bright in the store.

I didn’t want to spend too much time in the store. Everybody had to wear a face mask, the sales assistent was sitting behind plexisglass and you had to also wear gloves otherwise you weren’t allowed to touch the watches.

[QUOTE=Lol-x;10678752]One issue that is a little troubling with the 1661 and for that matter all other Carbotech cases is the warranty period.

For example what if a hot iron rod or a hot plate was to touch the carbotech? Would it melt? If its a plastic or resin it would definitely. I even saw a used watch for sale with a nick ... Means can't be polished like steel... I really want to get a carbotech Pam but these questions do come in mind..
