Do you feel watches at the AD should be set correctly in showcase

Checked in to my local AD looked at a rose gold root beer gmt master II. The date and time were not even close. Call me crazy but I figure a store that specializes in selling watches should keep them in a working order to show clientele.

Good question, they certainly don't have that many watches in the case to set and wind, right??

I would rather they don't wind them up at all until you put it on your wrist. It is just additional wear and tear on the watch prior to someone buying it new.

You're asking the AD to put a lot of wear and tear on their inventory since they have to unscrew the crown and manually wind all their displayed watches every 2-3 days.

And some references stay unsold for years! Would you like to buy a 'brand new' watch that has been wound and ran continuously before you buy it?

edit: also my sales person winds the watch and sets the correct time before he shows me the watch, so its all good!

But on a demo model?

There’s no such thing as a demo model anymore.

Not at all. My only “ask” would be that they actually have some inventory. That would impress me more than the correct time/date

I understand that and that’s what I thought as well. But then I thought I don’t want to spend 40k on a watch that any random person walking in to the AD put on their wrist to see what it’s like to wear a Rolex. I’ve never bought a new watch so I don’t necessarily know the process if they take one out of the back in its box and give it to you unmolested or if they take the one out of the case that God knows who has had it on.

It did seriously trigger my OCD a little though not being set or wound.

I feel they should set all to the watches to the Rolex press/photo time of 22:11:31And pull the crown out.
This would show the hands in great proportion and be uniform across the display.

What you see is what you buy. You are not buying a pair of shoes. Ridiculous to keep them all wound.

I suggest they set all watches to the same and pull the crown, it's brings uniformity to the display.

Ad staff should be handling watches as little as possible. And certainly not messing around with crown functions. I cringe at the thought.

Clearly I made a bad decision in posing this question and letting my OCD take charge for a split second. I get it now. Hopefully won’t happen again, who really knows though? Thanks for the clarification.

This is just silly. Can’t see how this matters in the buying process or the grand scheme of things. I mean, I guess you could be complaining about going to all your local ADs and not finding one to try on.

The only watch shop that I have been to that has done that was the Blancpain boutique at the Forum Shoppe in Vegas. I was quite amazed given the number of watches on display the amount of time it must take to wind all the watches in the store display everyday. Business must have been slow!

A couple good SAs I’ve had will set the time and date after taking out of the case before placing on a clients wrist. That’s the correct way imo.

Setting just before handing over is the best way I think.

Nothing wrong at all with the question OP !

Thanks for the support.

Most of the other commenters have zero tolerance for a stupid question in their eyes apparently considering the facetious comments and implied “you’re an idiot” comments. I appreciate the welcoming gift guys. If there weren’t rules for demeaning others opinions I’d have more to say. Maybe I should just stick to the general discussion forum where for the most part people aren’t demeaning and pretentious when there is a QUESTION asked by a new member.

You are out of the Rolex loop. What you see is what you get. There is no "let me get you a fresh one from the back" option.

That's ridiculous. I don't even try and keep all my own watches set and I have a vested interest in them. It seems some people are so nitpicky, the next issue would be one model has a second hand at 30 seconds and the next one is at 15....which model is inaccurate??
