Wow, thanks for re-upping this thread, Bas! Astounding. I at first simply thought the piece had been found in the mud. But the thought of it actually being worn like that... Horrific.

It really makes you wonder about the person wearing a watch that filthy. Like, are they THAT guy in the bathroom who after wiping or shaking just casually walks out without washing like they own the place?

Personally I always wipe my watches with a microfiber cloth when I take them off at night
Hey Bas, I believe only after thoroughly washing. If not, that is a perfect way to get the watch scratched up and contaminate the cloth with dirt grime and oil, which will happen if you don't first clean before take that cloth to it

This thread sent me right off to clean my DJ on Jubilee.
Common sense suggests a little dishwashing liquid in warm water and a soft toothbrush and that is my preference.
Water was slightly discoloured afterwards indicating that it was overdue for a proper clean. You can notice the difference after the clean.
In Summer I usually give them a thorough wipe after wearing each day with a clean wet towelling face washer but they need a proper clean every few months as a face washer doesn't get the grime buildup out from between the links.

My watch is already pretty scratched from years of daily use. I don't baby it, but I like to keep it clean. I wash it once a week, and my bracelet goes into a clean ultrasonic bath a few times a year.

If you really want to get grossed out, look at some car detailing sites on youtube!!! The worst are the minivans brought in by the soccer mom's, a close second are the reposessed cars bought at auctions. One of these cars had a bunch of hypo needles deposited between the seats.

Who's worse men or women??? Ask any janitor who cleans restrooms.

It may go back to biology. Dr. Jordan Peterson talks a lot about differences between men and women. GENERALLY men are into things, and women are into relationships. This explains why men gravitate towards STEM fields, and women towards jobs which focus on interpersonal relationships. This may explain why the sexes GENERALLY have a difference of opinion about maintaining things.

I haven't wear my watch much since the pandemic started but I do wear them at least one week of the month to give the movement a little work. After wearing it for a week mostly in the house I give it a good bath and dry and back in the box until next month. So, yes, I wash them once of month..
