Concerned? PAM 00682

After four months of obsessive watch shopping, I dwindled down my choices between the Rolex 16570 or the PAM 00682. This past weekend, I made a trip to the Panerai boutique and Tourneau in NYC to try on each. To my surprise, I was extremely UNDERWHELMED when trying on the 16570. IMHO that watch felt like a ~$2,500 watch, not the $5,000+ watch that is currently the retail value. However, I could not believe how OVERWHELMED the 682 made me feel. The fit, finish and comfort of that watch is unlike anything I've ever worn. The sales lady could obviously tell I was like a giddy school boy with how excited I became it was pathetic.

I found a PAM 682 for what I believe is a fair price online with an exhibition caseback (something I'm fond of). However, this watch DOES NOT include box and papers?!?! It's from 2018! Who tosses the box, papers and warranty card for a modern luxury timepiece these days!!? The seller, who has an overall positive repute, claims they purchased from long-time well regarded customer who just threw away the box and does not question any foul play with history.

I'm still skeptical. Any thoughts?

THANKS TRF

If you are buying to own and can authenticate, who cares?

If you think you might want to sell in the future, I would keep looking.

Maybe the previous owner buy the watch and wear it directly to prevent paying for customs...

I’d echo the others, keep looking if you’re planning to sell, but if you plan to keep it for life,go with no B&P,make sure you do further bargaining though....

A Panerai without box and papers is yours forever. I wouldn't do it. There are very few people brave enough to buy watch only when it comes to Panerai.

I am not a vintage guy so yes when I tried 16570 feel like s.. well lets say it felt like the case was hollow. So my advise is either buy the Pam 682 or a Rolex submariner C no date. If you go Pam, then either buy pre-own complete mint or LNIB from a reputable dealer or new with a good discount from AD. For the Sub no date might be harder to get from an AD but i would still try to go that route.

IMHO

Standard rule - Buy the seller, not the watch. Get references here on the forum or elsewhere.

Interesting perspective that I definitely overlooked. Still though, B&P has to be worth more on resell than customs fee's no? Maybe it was a booze cruise?

Thank you all for your two cents! First Panerai purchase (and first lux watch purchase) so just wanting to cover all the bases mentally before the purchase. Checked back in with AD to see what kind of discount they could provide as well.

The 682 is heavily replicated. No b&p would ring some serious bells for me.

682 is a great watch but I would buy new from an AD. Peace of mind.

I'd buy gently used and put the $2-3k I saved towards the next one.
