Panerai owners, how’s your experience with your watch? With or without crown guards?
Hi all! I’ve been wanting a Panerai for quite sometime now and I’d like to get some honest feedback from Panerai owners about your experiences with your watch. Any drawbacks or advantages? Do you prefer the crown guards or not?
I have very small wrists and when I went to the store to try a couple of watches, 42mm is the perfect size for me. Here are some photos and I definitely fell in love with the PAM574. The PAM512 is what I’m really aiming for but it’s discontinued (will search from trusted sellers here). I would appreciate your insights! Cheers! |

whichever you choose, i suggest you buy pre-owned so you don't spend too much vs new. this way when you get tired of it you can let it go and not take so much of a hit. panerai isn't the strongest when it comes to value retention. i see you're in NYC. spend an afternoon on 47th st and you will have your pick of the litter second-hand panerai-wise and the lowest prices second only to kowloon.

As previously stated do yourself a favor and buy pre-owned. I am a long time Panerai fan and move into and out of the brand every few years but always take a loss even when I buy right.

I prefer the toned down look of the radiomir but the luminor is probably what most think of when they think of Panerai. No right or wrong, buy what you like.

I have yet to find a Radiomir that sits right, but having had a 44mm 390 and my current 233, I find Luminor just perfect.

I’ve had my 112 for 10 years! Never got tired of it. It’s a super simple, clean dial which some may find boring, but for me the way the light plays off the UV coated crystal is pretty cool. Also, it’s a torch at night, love the sandwich dial, and the open caseback. To me there’s a lot going on. Add the strap choices, waterproof, robust accurate movement, the every-other day winding and general wrist presence - it’s a winner and my companion for a decade.

In the last 10 years I've had some Rads (380/210/346/292/232/532...) because I really like them, but on my wrist I prefer the 47mm Luminor 1950 case with crown guard...

That 42 looks huge on you! Definitely buy used and maybe check out some of the 40mm offerings unless you prefer the “overhang”

Here's a pic of my 690. Although its 47mm it doesn't wear it IMO.
The winding crown is substantial and I never worry about knocking it etc. All the enablers here on the forum were most helpful I hope you enjoy the 112 Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |
