Watch hand restoration video

Apologies if this has been posted before. It didn't show up in a search.

This guy makes it look so easy...

Not sure how he goes from the fully lum covered hands to the final merc hands. I assume it involves more polishing.

Great watch - thanks for sharing.

He lumes the under/back side of the merc hands. The lume solution is thick enough that it doesn't weep onto the front side of the hour hand.

Great video! I was expecting one of the hands to fling across the room as he applied his dremel polishing bit to them...

And those hands seem so delicate, I was surprised he didn't distort the curve to the hour hand.

There is probably wax holding the hand in place on that block. And its not a dremel. Its a jewelers drill. They usually have a floor pedal to regulate the speed and the motor is usually under the desk with a worm drive up to the drill to make it light to use.

So much work and time for doing this small often underpaid job. Very nice to see.

I was half expecting some purists to chime in and say this sort of refinishing is unacceptable and they should be left in their original condition!

There, I said it...

Very interesting video - prolly been posted before but it never hurts to share it for newer members who might never see it otherwise.

It goes to the point of what delicate work it is to restore the smallest detail.

I really enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing. When did Rolex start using white gold hands and hour marker surrounds?

Interesting on a couple things:

Mostly great work. Those looks to be gold hands rather than gilt. I could have sold him a few sets of NOS gold hands instead

The hands became (IMO) over polished to almost looking like aftermarket hands

The lume material he used was not up to snuff for the really good (otherwise) work he did on the hands. That job did deserve better lume. Now did he relume the dial as well? Or end up with mismatched lume?

Don't want to be over critical - he did very nice work

Was 4:41 really necessary? I was quite startled!
