Exterior looks good. You don't know about the movement unless you open the case.

Does not look even close to DSSD I used to own (crown guards, discoloration of the back, etc.).

Plus the price and no papers sound very fishy. I would stay away.

3000 usd? sounds suspicious..
either fake or stolen, imo.

That is extremely low & with no box and papers? On second looks the crown guards look off when I compared it to a real one. Take it to a store maybe? all sounds a bit dodgy.

Buy the seller. If something seems "off" it normally is.
Some jewelry or estate sale places will offer free visual verification but to be totally safe you need to look at the movement.

The price is too good to be true ,... I'd say something is off with either the watch or the seller.

needs a good cleaning, bracelet could use a re-brushing and case could do with a polish but $3k is way too low, something is very wrong if you are being offered an $8k watch for $3k.

I agree here. Something is off, especially the price. But those crown guards are a little lacking in the photos that I see. May just be over polishedBut they are not good and it could be the angle. Here is a genuine one to compare. There are 3 dial variations that are out there and this may just be an older (mk1 or mk2) dial but notice the difference in the "s" in Sea-Dweller and the other text. Google Rolex DeepSea dials and make sure it at least matches up to a mk1 or mk2. Because it is not a mk3. Did the seller indicate how old it is and the serial? May be worth a call to Rolex to check the database for stolen watches.

how it's like with a stolen watch.

Price is too good to be true, it's either a fake (and I tend to the opinion that it's fake) or "hot".

Not sure which one is better for your $3000,--

I'd say this isn't genuine. Feels too "soft".

Second thing, who in their right mind would sell it at almost 1/3rd of the normal used price?!

Its an mk1 dial. Only mk1dials have flat S's and closer spacing on depths. Zoomed in on my tablet the crown guards look OK, think it is angle/lighting making them look off. Insert looks good too. Could be a franken, or most likely stolen for that price.
