Sea Dweller 16600 - FAKE or REAL

Hello everybody,

i own this Rolex Sea Dweller that is not in really good conditions.
I'm looking forward to make a maintenance in a Rolex authorized center.
But, first, i would like to know if this could be considered real or fake (i think is really old, almost vintage).

Thank you very much in advance.

Indeed looking at all photos I am sure its fake.

Lets hear from others too

100% fake, and $30 fake at that, where did you purchase the watch from?

I'm not so sure. The fact that it appears to have tritium inserts in the WG hour markers and possibly luminova hands doesn't make it fake. This combination though rare has been discussed on this forum before and even pictured somewhere as I recall. The watch appears to have been dragged behind a plow and is certainly in bad shape. But I would like to know why everyone is so sure it's fake. Enlighten me.

I own 3 SD40's including a D, a Z and an M. This has all the elements except for the hour markers and hands I mentioned. The crown is right, the markings are right, the stampings and embossed marks on the bracelet match the really old bracelets in my collection. But I have an open mind and I won't say it's not fake if you can give me some good reasons why someone believes it is.

Thanks again everybody

I'm confused, might be easier for us to know who we're talking to if you ask the mod's to remove one of your accounts.

Pictures of the model # and serial # under the end links would also be of help. But pulling off the back which most watch repair people have the tools for and then a picture before reassembling is the absolute best proof either way.

Dial, hands, claps, endlinks is in my eyes very obvious non Rolex. This reminds me of fontiac fiero lamborhini conversions. You can tell what it tries to be but it looks cheap and crocked.
This is while not even seeing the watch in person. It probably looks and feels even worse in real life.

Careful look at the endlinks and especially comparing the inside view to one of my own watches, makes me think that you are probably right about that point. Not sure I agree about the hands and dial though. I've never seen the tritium or the luminova material come out of the WG hour markers but I remain unconvinced that it couldn't happen. The hands don't look bad to me.

However, because it would be relatively easy to remove the bracelet and show the model and serial and he hasn't done that...I would have to agree that it's definitely suspicious.

The opinion on this forum seems to be weighted towards this watch being fake. But if you are uncertain about our advice, then you should take the watch to a Rolex Service Centre. They will give you a quote for the service it is real. But they will also tell you it is fake for free.
