Shards inside on dial, RSC will want service.

Fell onto floor of safe? Should line the floor with sheet cork tiles.

Oh boy. It's going to cost you. An independent might replace the crystal for cheap but really it needs a full service - It's suffered an impact and sapphire shards (if they've breached through the date window) can potentially trash the movement if you risk going the cheap route...which won't end up being cheap. Sorry man.

Accidents happen - it can be fixed. Considering the world we live in today, there are far worse things that can happen to us at any given time. Hope the repair goes well.

Something similar happened to one of my watches. I had it serviced and it's now as good as new - you live and learn. I'd send it in for a full service if I were you. Good luck

I have given my wife her own shelf for reasons other than this, but thank you for sharing. I hope it's a quick Turn around. Are you going RSC or Other for the fix?

What a big shock to the op. Instead of sapphires crystals, how about diamond crystals guys? Can a synthetic diamond be grown into watch crystals ?

Too late now, but you should have hacked the movement as soon as it happened! You should not only replace the crystal, I would have it serviced!!

Put the watch face down and hack the movement.

Keep it face down until you get to the service center and it's opened. This way any small glass that shattered it is kept away from the dial and you reduce the chance of getting some small crystals past the dial.

You can get away with only replacing the crystal if no shattered glass goes past the dial.

IMO, don't service it. Waste of money if the watch only needs a new crystal.

When I dropped my DJ and broke the crystal like that RSC would not do a straight crystal replacement without doing a complete service where the piece is totally dissembled their reasoning being that a small piece of crystal could make its way into the movement how that's possible I don't have a clue but the crystal replacement ended up costing almost $800 due to the complete service .

So true. I would personally be very annoyed but it is just a watch and she probably does feel terrible. It sounds like you're handling it well but I would just reassure her that it's no big deal.

Handle this well and you can put it in the bank for the next time you want to buy a watch, lol. Honestly, the biggest real loss that could come of this is that you handle it poorly and your wife develops a negative association with your watch hobby.

Good thing the other heavy items didn't cause an AD of a different sort.

Excellent point. I edit myself from talking about watches too much, and certainly about potential new purchases until they are actually going to happen.

Creating a bitterness around watches would be a serious misstep

Sorry to see. Ouch. But it will be fixed and will be behind you.

A small area rug to be placed in front of the safe should now be on order?

The second hand has been moving when comparing
The two pictures. I have read numerous times you are supposed to stop the movement immediately .

Better to keep watches in a case in the safe.
