Not sure but the one I saw yesterday was an S serial.

The dome was one of the main reasons I bought the 233.

I'm in the same boat...really like both models. I tried on the 533 a long time ago and need to go back to my AD to strap it on again. Love the dome on the 233 and like the ideal of a PR for a manual wind...and of course also thinner. Though with the dome on the 233 vs flat crystal on the 533, which one ultimately sits higher???
The 233 definitely has the more 'tool watch' feel in my opinion with the brushed case and the overall 'cold' feel to it. Of course, can be dressed up with a change of a strap. The 533 i think has that opposite feel. Just dressier overall I think but throw on the rubber and i think it becomes really sporty.
Man, I'm torn. Any side by side pics?!?!!?

I've been having the same problem but for me it has to be the 533. I've been trying other references for the past six months and getting quite excited over several, such as the 372, 233, 389. However, I keep coming back to the 533. I had one put away with a deposit on it, went to collect it and they brought out the 689 (which I'd previously been told I had no chance of getting). What was I supposed to do?

Three more months and I can put myself out of my misery

Well yeah...that's just a stunning piece. Yeah...strongly leaning towards the 533.

Hi Ruud,
I am having a bit similar problem like you. I am not a paneristi yet at the moment, and I am thinking to buy a Panerai watch, but after a few weeks of research thru internet, I hv few preferences i.e. PAM 533 and PAM 233. But when I read your thread, I just realized there is another 533 type in blue i.e. 689. Now I am confuse which type should I buy.
Btw, if you dont mind, could you refer me the AD that selling the 689?
Thank you.

I've sent you a PM but you can forget the 689, they've been sold out for a long time. You might get lucky at a grey or an online dealer.

Before you choose between the 233 and 533, I suggest you go and try the both on as they're quite different. Most on here will steer you towards the 233; it's a Panerai icon but I prefer the 533.

Good luck.

Many thanks for your info and input. I personally also like the 533 version, as i am not thinking to wind it manually. :)

If you do get the 533, i would probably let the 359 go... Happy hunting.

PS, when you already have the 689, I would strongly recommend resisting the 533 for a few more months. Think about all the other watches out there that would compliment your collection.

No and no.

You're absolutely right in that there are so many watches out there that would compliment my collection. Like I've said before though, there are people here that have several Daytonas, a collection exclusively of Submariners and so on. The 533 was my first love when looking at Panerai; I had a deposit down on it and a 312 but when I went to collect, my guy said he wanted to show me something and pulled out the 689. I'd asked for one months previously but they were allocated to premier clients; he was honest, we all know how it works and I was ok with that. However, as I was making a double purchase he was able to offer me the 689 if I wanted it. No one of sound mind was going to turn the 689 down. No way. I knew it would bother me in not getting the 533 but it's a production piece and not going anywhere soon so I knew I could pick one up another day.

My love for the 359 and 533 are very well documented on here. My 359 gets more wrist time than any other and it's going nowhere; the 533 is my first Panerai love and I've been resisting one for the past twelve months. I'm picking mine up in 26 days

I love the dome crystal of the 233. Also I prefer Manual wind in Panerai. I do not like the dirty dial faux patina watches. Happy Bday. Good luck

The 233 will always be a personal and Paneristi fave. It was amazing on release and has evolved into a very cool Watch. I wouldn’t get too hung up on dot dial or am/pm as it makes little difference to value. They earlier ones could be seen as rarer but modern ones have upgraded the weaker parts (allegedly).

I can’t say I rate the 270 as highly as I don’t quite get a 10day auto but each to their own

I have a 10 day auto and an 8 day manual and I love them both. One advantage of a 10 day auto is that you can put it down after a few days wear, pick something else up and then a week later put the ten day back on without having to reset it.

Best I can come up with in this not-very-sensible hobby

I like the 533. I’ve owned the 233 several times but was never over the moon about it.

I was in the same exact position looking at these 2 models. Ironically, I ended up with the 422! That said, I spent a lot of time comparing the 533 and 233 side by side. And if choosing between these 2, I would go with the 533. Can't go wrong with either but for me, I much preferred the following on the 533: warmer/'patina' look of the lume, the black hands that dressed it down a bit more and made the hands appear to float on the dial, the 9 hour marker (probably the biggest for me), and while most love the fang, I actually prefer the PR display on the 533.
