Sub every time.

I have a 2010 16610 and a BLNR and I am giving the BLNR to my dad for Christmas. The Sub is delightful is size and aesthetics.

While I like the dial and bezel on the BLNR, the overall package of the Sub is miles better in my opinion. I do have it on a bruised 2016 GMT clasp though and that sorts the one weakness.

I also get the feeling most people saying BLNR do not have both in their hands to compare.

What makes you say that?

I have an older 16710 Pepsi and a new BLNR. I’ve also owned an old Sub LV and an old 5 digit sub amongst others.

The 5 digit wears beautifully and is full of charm, but the BLNR just has some nice improvements and pops with colour. It also has a lovely luxury feel to it that’s hard to explain.

Between them both I’d keep BLNR and am very familiar with both.

Ultimately no wrong answer though

I have both a 16610LV and a BLNR.

And I also say keep the BLNR. Give the 5-digit to your Dad.

Younger guy gets the modern, the senior gent gets the classic.

Sounds about right to me.

This is exactly what I suggest.

I mostly agree with this however there are some exceptions where I prefer the 6 digit over 5.

OP I've had a few of both the BLNR and 16610. I'd keep the 16610

Lol I wish it’s his 60th, I’ve been a Rolex fan since a teen and now 32.
I brought for list from AD in 2015 black face Daytona just so happened to be my 30th I obviously knew they were special and had been on the list for many years BUT had no idea the values would go through the roof and the model would be changed so soon.
I have the Rolex bug as most of us on this fourm and the Sub and GMT in my opinion are two of the best watches on the market think I might just keep the pair.

Let your dad choose; he may surprise you. In the same situation, between a BLNR and 116520, my dad chose the BLNR.

Just let your dad decide which one he likes best . In the long run you will get it back ( in many years I hope ) & the watch will probably be even more special to you as your dad wore it . I offered my dad a GMTiiC TT & he said no thanks I wouldn't want to damage it .

I think a younger gentleman would be happier with the BLNR and your dad would probably more appreciate the 16610 Submariner with it's more traditional style and size. Plus the Sub will be staying in the family anyways. BTW that's a very generous and kind gesture to pass one of your watches to your Dad. Very nice indeed! Cheers!
