Losing 5 min a day

I think I already know the answer to my own question but wanted to hear if others have experienced the same thing. My 114060 is still under warranty but started to go -5 these past two weeks but now it's up to -5 minutes a day (!). RSC is the only option to me but it is very troubling. This is the first time I've experienced problems with a Rolex in 30 years of owning a DJ. Any input or comment?

I think you know what the answer is.... Service

Did it happen all of the sudden?

Were you near any magnets?

My wife's recently purchsed DJ was running -4 from new and it is now -5. I am going to London in the near future. Guess what is accompanying me!

When a watch gets magnetised in general they will speed up and run very very erratic or even stop and refuse to start.

Well depending on how your testing and wearing habits its most unusual to lose that amount of time daily - 5 minutes like you state. Now it cannot be just regulation as the maximum you could pull back on the microstella adjustment on the balance wheel is 150 seconds either way.So I would check your testing methods to be 100% sure of this daily loss, if its correct just use your warranty that's what its for.

It's been consistently -5 to 8 per day. The only explanation about that erratic jump to -5min may be related to defective self winding. My guess. I have no background in micro mechanics.

If you have a problem with the self-winding mechanism it will eventually just stop. When the power reserve is low it will run slightly faster, but only a few seconds per day, not five minutes slow!

Now the watch has stopped (it's worn all the time). It can be manually rewound but stops after 10-15 seconds. RSC for sure now.

Well if the watch will only run for like you say 10 seconds how did it run -5 minutes a day. If the watch will not run after a full manual wind then it could be just two things, 1 mainspring is broken, 2 screw have come lose in the winding stem, or winding mechanism both very simple fixes.

Or automatic reverser have failed and the crown couples to rotor before barrel.

Thanks for the input. I'll send it in but the troubling and lingering question remains in my mind. Should this have happened in the first place? How common is it for Rolex movements to go back for servicing after 18 months?

Watch going to the RSC tomorrow. I'm told they expedite the process when the watch is still under warranty.

Update: Watch has been back from RSC about three weeks now. Consistently +2 which is exactly where I wanted it (I did request they would set it for + rather than -). One thing they didn't do is polish the watch; disappointed but the turn around was pretty fast (3 weeks). The write up didn't include the source of the problem either.
