Just got back from a week on the beach. Wore my subc the whole time as usual. Out of curiosity, since my watch has had lots of time playing in the sand and water this past year and a half, I wanted to see if any sand or grime built up underneath. It is actually much cleaner than expected, I guess running it under water and moving the bezel around is good enough.

For those that are curious, the bezel just pops off. Don't lose the springs. You can find a walk thru on YouTube.

That's pretty cool! Good to see that there isn't a lot of dust and grime under there. I do believe that the delrin ring actually has to be replaced when the bezel is removed. Wonder if Rolex sells them individually?

Good to see proof that "it's safe" to wear your SubC to the beach! Let us know if the bezel pops back on. I thought you need a special press to avoid damaging the ceramic insert?

haha safe indeed! The press is needed for the bezel insert, not the whole assembly.

its a reusable plastic o-ring. No need to replace unless damaged, I'm sure you could get one of needed.

The thin nylon /hytrel washer fits under a thin lip in the retaining ring. That washer is meant to be sacrificial and 1-time use only as it wears down slightly as its forced off the ring. One can only get them at RSC, although some may pop up on eBay or the like. So I really wouldn't recommend removing the bezel unless you have a replacement washer handy or unless it's an emergency.

having it actually in my hands, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Although I don't doubt that they recommend replacing it, I can't see that it is necessary. It isn't fragile at all, and isn't forced off anything. Sort of like changing motor oil every 3000 miles, a recommendation.

What holds the bezel in place?

Is it just a press fit when you put it back on?

I don't think your penknife is an issue based on the application.

More of a watchmakers tool?

Fantastic, you make it look so easy! Thanks for the video, it helps show how much effort and pressure you used.

PS. I wouldn't worry about rule #6. I think it is fine in the context of this post, it's not being highlighted as anything special or controversial. Storm in a teacup. Sort of like showing the cutlery in a pic of what I had for dinner last night!

Wouldn't worry about the pic as the context is ok I'm sure If a mod was concerned they would edit it, Adam was just giving you a heads up

Back on topic, good for you for doing it yourself more then I would do, it's a catch situation as Rolex stipulate the retaining ring is one shot so maybe you can get away with reusing but I personally wouldn't just in case (knowing my luck I'd lose the bezel)

Fastening ring should be replaced when dismounted.

Thanks for the comments guys. The bezel just snaps back on with an authoritative click. Just make sure you place the springs and plastic ring back in place before you snap it back on :) The black stuff was dirt/sludge that built up some how, I'm glad I did it because my bezel rotates and sounds brand new again!
