When should the date change?

All,
Maybe a dumb question, but as my Subbie is going to Dallas RSC tomorrow, I wondered since it changes dates 10 minutes before 12 midnight, should I get that fixed under warranty as well, or leave well enough alone? It really does not bother me, but I thought I'd ask you guys since it will be there anyway. Should I ask them to fix it?

Thanks,
David

For Rolex, teh date should change at 12 midnight. You should ask them to fix it.

Depending on what they're doing to your watch, it will come back changing differently..

A Rolex will change over instantly when it changes, but it usually does this anywhere from a minute or so before to a minute or so after..

Hi all, new here and new Rolex owner.

I am sure that after a service that would involve removing the hands, your watch will be changing at 12 midnight.

reason why; before reinstalling the hands on any date watch, the watchmaker as to turn the crown in the hour setting position until the date disc changes. Only then the hands are reinstalled and aligned precisely on the 12 o'clock position.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Eric

Anytime a watch is opened, there is a possibility for scratches, marks. the loss of use of the watch for the time it takes to service it, etc. IMHO if it changes within ten minutes it is not worth doing anything about it till your next service.

My watch is doing the same thing as it changes 9 minutes before midnight. It was explained to me that this is within standards and if you want it fixed you risk having the dial scratched and the hand holes stretched out. He said the risk is low but has happened. I am waiting until my next service to get mine spot on.

As long a it changes by the time you get up in the morning nothing to worry about. Just get a good nights sleep thats far more important.

Mine changes about 1 min 30 sec after midnight. Agree with the post here regarding scratches. Sent mine in a while ago for regulation (timing issue) covered under warranty. Watch came back and the case back was marked to hell. Some of the scratches were deep. I have to assume from using a tool to open my watch?

You should not have accepted it back and had them repair it, why would you let them get away with that.!!!!!!!!

My Rolex had complete overhaul 2 years ago at bexley and my day and date has just changed at 12 .02 am

I wear the watch about 3 times a year or did should I say !!!! Surely for it to be spot on the watch needs to be worn all the time and never be allowed to be reset on a regular basis?

Or am I talking rubbish ???

Long story Dave but the short of it is this was not the first time I sent my watches back for a regulation. I have a couple Rolex watches. I sent this particular watch back twice for regulation. So I had noticed marks each time on both watches on the caseback. This time deep. I am really pissing off my AD with these warenty sendbacks so I let it slide. I plan on asking for a caseback polish when the watch gets serviced on my dime.

My "V" serial 16610 changes about 75 seconds after midnight while "M" serial 16610 LV changes about 2 minutes after midnight and the "Z" serial 16710 GMT-ll w/ cal 3186 changes about 2 minutes after midnight. Rolex instructions just say that the date will change instantaneously around midnight so I'm happy. 10 minutes prior would probably be a concern for me though.

my two Rolex changes at 12AM, I was going to buy another used GMT TT , but only reason I did not buy it was it changed about 45 minutes later.

I just do not like dealing with used watch with problems other than regular wear and tear.

Plus or minus 2 minutes is proper specs. Question about manual setting or just letting the watch do it has to do with gear train tightness. When you manually turn the hands you're putting more constant torque on the gears ,when it does it by itself the gears aren't as tightly packed together so variances can occur. Also the corner of the cam can become slightly rounded over time and cause it to change earlier. Rikki

If they are servicing it anyway, I would put a note in that you would like it done. Or call them if they already have it.

what kind of problems would a date change like that indicate?
