What watch you go for when you want haute horology or complications?

Title says it all. What do you guys and gals go for and why?

I’ve been considering a JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual for awhile. Beautiful piece, love the perpetual complication, absolutely amazing they can make a perpetual watch this thin, and JLC has always been the watchmakers watch.

If you're going all out, then go for the big brands like Patek, AP, VC, A Lange & Sohne, Breguet, etc.

Otherwise, there are alternative brands like JLC, Blancpain, Glashutte Original, IWC, or MontBlanc

Aside from the trinity, try ALS, GO, JLC and IWC for mainstream.

There are obscure high end brands that specialize in high horology. But they dont appeal to me.

I’d go for a pre loved ALS

Patek or ALS for me.

The style of JLC doesn’t really suit me, but the ultra thin Perpetual really is super value.

I'd add that I think it also depends on the complication you're looking for.

I don't see too much of a difference for perpetual calendars but ALS makes by far the best the chronograph in my mind

A Lange & Sohne for anything with a moon or chrono.

I'd love an MB&F. I mean, look, if you want something really interesting mechanically and not just another round case with some normal-ish movement... :)

Cannot go wrong with the big maisons as named above.

My story is that I have a close affiliation with LV so am partial to their high watchmaking line. Love the watches, appreciate getting to conference call with the makers, designers, execs, and family. But I would be reluctant to recommend them every watch collector.

I really like that JLC. Great value on the secondary market. You get a perpetual for under 20K.

Honestly (I acknowledge I'm in the extreme minority here), I don't much care for most complications. Most of them are a pain to set and service. I prefer simplicity. Maybe I'm just lazy. Haha

For the complications I do like, ALS for chrono and Habring for deadbeat seconds (potential future watch for me).

This man chose very well. Either this (ALS), or Patek are my favorites at this level.

The JLC perpetual might get the award for bang per buck as far as that complication goes.

+1 for ALS. Specifically the 1815 Chrono, any Datograph, and of course the Zeitwerk.

I don’t care for Patek Complications but I do love the 5320g and think that may be a good choice as well for this category.

MB&F for sheer beauty, complications would be ALS 2001 Datograph or Zeitwerk and Glashutte Original 2002 PanoRetroGraph or post 2012 PanoGraph.

Ps. Ugly to some but my personal current favorite the Bréguet classique tourbillon extra-plat squelette 5395!!

Rolex Skydweller. Can any other annual calendar go 10y without a recommended service?

Review likely servicing needs of complicated watches. A perpetual calendar that needs a service a few years from new is sort of pointless in my opinion, especially given the turn around times.

haute horology earth based, you know our planet (beside the AP / VC / PP)
Dressy = ALS Datograph . Tourbograph
All day = JLC Master Control Chronograph Calendar / IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar
Sporty = IWC Pilot Perpetual Calendar

ALS Lange 1 for HH with basic date complication. But, boy ... they do the big date and movement finishing like few others ...
