Two vintage dress explorers are they rare?
Hi I have two dress explorers mod# 6299 5506. They both say explorer and have either waffle dial or honeycomb (not sure which one). They both have cracked crystals and are pretty nicked up. Both are running and keeping time. Would these be considered rare? And are they worth collecting or are they too rough? Just trying to figure out if I should hold on to them or sell them off.
Thanks Raf |

I'd say they are worth keeping if you clean them up. On a nice thick leather strap they would look classy.
The gold plating is gone, I know most rolex people will have an infarct at the thought of replating but it can be done properly by the right people. The movements are very hard to get parts for so not sure what your long term plans are - 10-20 years from now parts will break and not be replaceable. In that regard its better to sell to someone else to give them the headache. |

Both Canadian issue "Explorers" I think. For some reason many models had the Explorer printed on dials. These are the 34mm cases and bubble back movement is in the one as you show. Tommy RWC on this forum is a wonder on these movements. The waffle dial is a great looking watch. Keep if you love or sell as is & save the headache. m

Thanks for the replies and info. I think I will keep the 6299 and put the 5506 on eBay.
