For the record, customs/duties on packages incoming to the US are very hit or miss. I've bought a half dozen or more watches from overseas through the years and only one time did I receive a bill like yours. It was Fedex also.

Its common. I had a watch from Germany sent to my job and my company got the bill as they have business accounts with FedEx/UPS etc. They were cool about it as long as I paid the bill.
To avoid this you can use your company address but don't use the company name (use your own name) |

I bought a watch on ebay and it wasn't as described so returned it.
This was about a year ago. Fedex still bills me to now trying to collect. Contacted them and tried to dispute but since item was first imported before the return, I'm still liable for the duties. Haven't paid yet....watch was $3,000 so duties alone is $300 and some change... |

Yes, I also bought a Stowa flieger for my husband as a gift. I received a $17 bill afterwards.
Here, FedEx sends us the bill after delivery of package. I know everywhere else in the world, customs fees are collected prior to receipt of the item. |

Absolutely normal. Can be annoying at times when you're not aware.

Sadly I've been on the receiving end of such a letter from FedEx. In my case unfortunately it was for a lot more and I wish this would've been disclosed to me prior.

FedEx Bill...Is This Normal?
Also live in the EU-Netherlands
When importing an item worth more then €22 from outside the EU you pay VAT, custom duties and a handling fee. Quick rule is that you multiply your overseas purchase with 1,25. So you pay 25% extra. But you have to pay first before you can pick up the item. Popular here is to pick up expensive watch purchases personally abroad, claim the sales taxes when you leave the foreign country and try to smuggle it back into Holland. Anyone know how much import duty % would I pay on a leather jacket shipped from UK to US?

Happened to me in Japan. FedEx sent me a bill for customs. Went down to the convenience store to pay it.
