thoughts on 5160/500G

I’ve got the call from AD for applying this piece but at the same time I am waiting for 5270P-014. May I humbly ask which one should I go for first given my budget is limited to only one of them.

I’ve heard my AD telling me that 5160 doesn’t come too often compare to 5270.

I personally love the 5160 and the officer case back plus engravings. Retrograde PC is special

But honestly can’t go wrong with either

I received the 5160/500 a few months back. It is extraordinary! I agree you cant go wrong with either. You just don’t see either very often.
In a watch world dominated by Aquanauts and Nautilus these two are special. Also love
5326’s and older 5970 and 5070 models.

The 5160 is a rare watch. You need to like it as the engraving can be overwhelming if you are not all in on it. Regrettably, no matter how much Patek recases the retrograde PC, it is not one of their more popular movements as say the 240Q.

The 5160 is certainly a watch for collectors and most people will never see one in real life. I have only seen the R version at an AD, that was awaiting pick up by another collector.

5270P is a special watch and yet not an application watch at the moment. However a Patek PCC is still their "flagship" watch, although many would want to claim that a Nautilus is their flagship watch.

Tough choice, but go with the one that tugs at your heart as purchasing a watch at this price level is usually an emotional one.

5270 no doubt. More timeless to me.

Indeed you said what’s in my mind , I just need someone to concur with me .

I’ve got 5740 just a few months back and they ask me again so soon That’s why the budget is a bit tight for two consecutive GC in a row . I was expecting 5160 or 5270 coming next year , but they said 5160 can’t be seen quite often as it comes May be every one or two years.

I applied it and waiting good news from my AD , I believe this is the timeless piece for watch collecting

what a great problem to have. What did you end up getting? I love both but especially the 5160. It has this great country feel to it.

The 5270P is overproduced imo. My AD received 5 pieces last year alone. Literally, one piece shows up every two months. I even asked my SA why a 5270P piece is always on display inside the boutique. Nice piece but nothing special really.

The 5160 is much rarer, though not appreciated by many due to its size probably.

I prefer the 5270. Even though the 5160 is much rarer, I don't think I can handle the engravings. I can't think of where I would wear a piece like that. The 5270 on the other hand is something I can see myself wearing quite a lot. Either way, both heavy hitter pieces. Good luck in your decision.

OP also curious to see what you got.

My personal thought would be 5270 first and then 5160.

CountryBoy: good to see you back here! Hope you and heehaw are doing well!!!

I ended up in 5160 last November (just before the price hike in HK). I think I will buy the 5270 too but the 5270J in secondary market as I can see it’s almost having 40-50% off now

One important thing to note , After getting it for several months . I think the 5160/500G can be carried even with causal dressing . On the first glance it’s an absolute dress piece but when you get used to it’s engraving , it’s not tiring to look at it daily in casual wear .

However I doubt the R version of it can be casually wear like the G version
