Very sad. Like the others pointed out, unfortunately RSC is a notoriously dangerous place to send your vintage pieces.

So...are we going to get to see the estimate Rolex submitted to you for your approval?

I had a similar experience with Rolex Dallas where they replaced the tritium seconds hand on my 16550 with a luminova one during service. It was clearly stated on the intake form not to change hands, polish case etc. I brought it up with management, at first they denied everything.
Then they searched and found the intake photos and they showed the original hand.
They did the right thing and sent it to the specialists in Pennsylvania where they sourced a correct matching hand and installed it.

The experience was not fun - but lesson learned make sure you document what you want and don't want very clearly. And given the many horror stories on this topic, maybe find a reputable independent watch maker for your vintage stuff. M2C

It'd be funny if the hands were listed and he approved that.

Usually things go off the rails when a watch is turned in to a Dealer, then RSC only converses with the Dealer who is making your decisions for you.

What surprises me is how often people don't even understand the distinction between an AD and RSC. It's all just "Rolex" to them.

Exactly this, plus RSC does not belong to Rolex SA, Geneva. Even less people understand that, as you say, it is all "Rolex" for many here.

What would be a good vintage repair shop on Europe to send such a piece?

Hi Hubert, I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. Are you able to take this issue up with the manager of the AD or the manager of the RSC itself to explain what happened and how their actions have caused you a loss in value of your watch? I recommend that you do this in writing, with a copy of the letter sent to Rolex HQ. You've got nothing more to lose and it's just your time and energy spent in writing a letter to both. Who knows, they may be sympathetic and acknowledge they did something wrong and try to make amends.

Unfortunately, the OP has left us alone with a bunch of unanswered questions, since 12 October, a weird attitude.

Again. Another RSC mess.

Complaints such as this, which I have been reading about for a while now, here and at WUS, are just some of the reasons I now only use the services of a certified CW21 watchmaker.

At least your chances are much, much better going that route.
