Rolex 1655

So my father has owned a Rolex explorer II 1655 since about 1985 when he purchased it from a pawn shop. He has worn it everyday damn near since then. It has been cleaned and had the crystal replaced a couple of times but still has the original dial and hands, but from what I can tell a different band. The rear plate has an inscription dated 1972 from what I can only assume is the original owner having received it as a gift. My question is if you owned it would you wear it everyday? It will be mine someday and honestly I can't imagine not wearing it. Then again I would love to be able to give this watch to my children someday.
