Trade thoughts

Would you trade a zenith el primero and Rolex explorer 114270 towards a Daytona 116520 black dial?

Yes, I love the previous Daytona (116520) a lot more than the other two.

Daytona has never appealed to me. But if it did. I would do the trade.

I’m the outlier but I actually prefer the El Primero to the Daytona outright. The explorer is just a bonus.

Nope from me

Yes, I would do a trade with those watches for the Daytona plus a lot of cash.

Need far more information.

How old are all three watches? Service? Box and papers? Conditions? What other watches do you own?

My best advice is: Don't let others answer that question for you.

Explorer is 2001, full set box papers and service papers from 2019. 9/10 condition.

EP from 2019 full set box and papers. 9/10 condition although the strap would probably need replacing when selling on.

The other watches I own are 16710, 116200 blue dial and Tudor bb58. I suddenly got an itch for a Daytona and thought the zenith/explorer would get me a decent way there but it sounds like maybe not

I guess whatever deal I can find, the question was more in principle than an actual scenario. I thought I’d be around 2/3 of the way to a black dial 116520 but may be wishful thinking

How old is the 116520?

You already have a chronograph and you want to trade your chronograph and another watch for a chronograph? The 116520 out of warranty.

I would not do this trade

Fair enough thanks for the perspective . I’d be looking at a 116520 from 2001-2005. I like the zenith but it feels a bit fragile at times, the movement is great but as a whole package, fit, finish, after care/service options I feel better about Rolex. Unfortunately Rolex only makes one chronograph which happens to be the most desired luxury watch in the world...

I’d always avoided the Daytona because of the hype, however I’ve clicked with the watch itself in the last couple of weeks

I couldn't agree more. I was reading a post on here yesterday that involved someone taking a YouTuber's perspective as gospel and they were disappointed in the end.

It's big money, poor or rich, don't let others move your money at the hopes of them understanding your tastes.

Some people may not have as specific tastes when it comes to the hobby but for me personally, I couldn't imagine anyone influencing me into any other watch that I don't already want... I'm way too picky.

The zenith will be hard to trade towards the Daytona.

Nobody is going to make me do anything, just interested in other collectors perspectives, granted this is obviously a Rolex heavy crowd though

Big No for me. I'd rather have a Zenith over a Tona anyway.. I'm not a big chrono fan and haven't owned one yet but the El Primero may change that for me.

Similar sentiments regarding the Daytona, but I would as well, for the white dial.
