This is a mod I can get behind. Like the OP, I usually like to keep everything "stock." However this mode is awesome looking (I know it's a super old thread)

What are opinions on this mod being done on a 39mm OP Rhodium.
I like my OP very much but after seeing this mod I'd certainly consider it . |

From my perspective, this mod turns a stellar Rolex into the perfect Rolex. I'll be doing it to my 116000 post-haste.

To me it makes the watch more useful but less elegant. I love the dial; too bad there aren't dial options on the Explorer.

Still a good mod in my opinion, no regrets here.
Legibility is is greatly improved, while also adding a nice balance to the dial. |

tradeoffs
IMO, what it loses in elegance it gains in charm (and legibility, which is arguably more important).
Of mechanical watches, my first love was the original 36mm Explorer 1, with its perfect proportions, arabic numerals, and mercedes hands. With time, I've also come to prefer a silver or blue dial to a black dial. So a blue OP 116000 w/mercedes hands will suit me perfectly. I have a nice dress watch for more formal occasions, but if the OP were my only watch, I might think twice about swapping the hands. And I think it looks phenomenal "stock" as well. |

Very nice indeed, congrats. Might do it myself one day.
I prefer the domed bezel to the flat, the dark sunburst blue to the matte black, the whitegold rolex crown to the large lumed triangle and the 36mm size over the 39mm. The perfect Explorer then? Well almost, an easylink would be nice but I guess one that fits can be sourced? |

How did you manage to get an easylink? Would you share it with us? Thank you in advance.

I actually got the easink before the watch. I was changing the sizing on my BLNR and my toddler son grabbed it off the table. I searched for a few hours and couldn't find it so I ordered one from my local AD. A few weeks after the new one arrived my wife found the original easylink in one of his toy cars.

This is an old thread I know but I really love how this mod works. So much so that I went to an AD today and said if they would also supply me with some 114270 hands I would buy this watch. They declined but I will hunt for some hands then buy the watch

Wow. Those hands really make the watch pop now. The blue OP with Explorer hands is great.

Really nice mod. Definitely worth the revival, since I hadn't seen that before. Looks much better than factory.
