Question regarding discontinued Rolex

Hi guys,

Just a question for the pricing pro's

I was recently offered what seems like a fantastic deal on a TT/18k White Dial-Yacht Master 16623 with a 8 digit randomized serial# (brand new/stickers still on it)

Out the door price is 30% off MSRP including taxes.

I was just wondering about this watch holding its value. I have purchased a discontinued model before (DDII/41mm -but that is a different beast all together)

Thx for the help! Feels good to finally add another to the collection.

Never thought I would want another piece after my DDII. It only took 4 years.

Listen, if it's a great deal buy it but like anything else you buy like modern cars, watches, etc, they aren't investments and don't worry so much about it holding its value. Enjoy them for what they are.

Good secondhand buy but new old stock with 30% discount.. er.. Yachties are still being made and have gained in popularity lately but you might have to hold onto it for a while..

A TT Yachtmaster like that was my first ever Rolex purchase back in 1996.Fabulous watch and one I would still own now if I would not have had to sell it to buy my 16628 which I still have today.I love Yachtmasters and in the words of Elvis in True Romance "Always have......always will"

Not a bad number for a discontinued piece, especially considering you'd still get the 5 year warranty on it. If you like it, go for it!

Limited resale potential. If you like it buy it. Id push for 40 percent or walk. Worth a try.

Was offered 6% off for the same watch in Frankfurt 2 days ago, so 30% sounds good to me.

If you really like it, that's what matters. Would it have caught your eye had it not been heavily discounted?
I'm thinking the same about a DJII my AD offered; SS, fluted bezel, great dial for way less than a new DJ41...but I'm not sure I love the watch. Be sure.

Looks like a nice YM; buy it if you like it a lot. Really if it's something you want and will wear then it sounds like a good deal.

40%?
You wouldn’t have to walk, the AD would be showing you the door

Discontinued and Discounted Rolex Question

Does the Yacht-Master (with 30% discount) come with all documentation and full 5 year year factory warranty? I ask because I was offered a Milgauss with a white dial (now discontinued) from an AD at 30% off, but with only a one year warranty and no papers (box only). I was told the watch was purchased and returned (reason for big discount), therefore Rolex won't honor factory warranty since I would not be the original owner.
FYI, I passed on this offer.

If you are trying to resell to make money, even at 30% I think it will be hard.

If you like the watch and will keep it at least for awhile then go for it. If you want to give it a trial and think you can resale it without a loss, I would not go for it.

There's a reason why it's 30% off but every watch has a buyer at some point. There are people who would buy that watch at retail and others who would still not buy it even at 50% off.

I've been to a couple of AD-lost-Rolex-account 30-40% off fire sales and honestly the stock left at that discount isn't very enticing.

Agree with many here, I buy the watch that I'll enjoy on my wrist and definitely not the price.

My AD offered 50% the other day.....on selected models that are going away to make room for the new releases. Don't think for too long, they will not be in the showcase for very long at these discounts. My AD has already taken orders and sold them over the phone....don't wait.

Completely agree. Buy what you like, not what you hope will appreciate in value. Overall, watches are lousy investments. Every now and then a watch model will appreciate but it’s usually because of external factors. Those are impossible to predict. Just being discontinued is no predictor of future value. Look at the Pepsi GMT’s over the last 5 years or so. They’re not rare but prices have risen drastically. Who knows what will catch the public eye.

At 50% off I'd have run over and bought something. That's an unheard of discount for a new Rolex.

My sincere apologies if you like this reference, but my first thought upon seeing it was two tone, gold bezel, white (non-precious, or interesting) dial, people are going to think it’s an invicta, or worse a replica.

It is beautiful, but solid gold bezel, crown, and center links are strange bedfellows with a simple white dial.

You're really not saving, if what you're buying isn't something you need or want.

Wouldn't be tempted just because of the reduced price.

If you like it, just get it and wear..

That combo would be my choice in that model.

If you want it - buy it.

The discount is just a bonus.

Two years ago I had a similar discount (33% off) on a new YM platty 116622 (discontinued since summer 2016). I bought it because it's a grail and I was well aware I might lose cash if I was to resell short term. Prices have somewhat stabilized since, so I'm in the money (or at least break-even).
