Yet another scotchbrite question....

and I'm sorry if this has been covered, but I've looked and don't see it.

Clearly, the majority believe that the best way to buff out hairline scratches on the brushed portions of our beloved timepieces is to use the green scotchbrite pad. I've also seen people write that you should use long, gentle wipes in one direction.

The only thing I haven't seen is anyone comment on whether or not the pad should be wet or dry. So if anyone has an opinion on it, I'd be much obliged if you could share.

(And yes I know that the watches are meant to be worn and will get scratched. I've had my subC for a little over a year now and I'm just looking to give it a little touch up).

Thanks all.

Use it dry and brush in one direction only but quite steady pressure .

I use 400/600 grit black auto sandpaper very carefully in one direction only. I had my DJ serviced a few months ago and the watchmaker said he couldn't have done any better himself. He ended up only doing my case.

Check the reference section. Larrry has a post that shows how to do it correctly (with pics!).

To save searching here's the post Larry made: Bracelet Removal, Touch-up, Replacement...

Wonder if a less aggressive aluminum oxide pad like the Scotch-Brite™ General Purpose 7447 Pad (the maroon one) would be more forgiving for newbies? It performs like grade 1 steel wool without splintering and is less harsh than the green heavy duty Scotch-brites.

I like using Bergeon's fine and medium abrasive blocks because you can get a really straight line with them, but a ScotchBrite is fine.
