Thoughs on this 1969 GMT Master Long E

Hi guys, I have been offered this GMT in a trade. It looks absolutely stunning to me. I have looked around and prices vary according to condition, I would just like to ensure this is a fair deal for both parties. The owner is asking for two Submariners, full sets (1991 sub and 1997 14060) plus $1350 USD on top. The GMT Master has no box or papers.

Serial number pegs it at about 1971. And I would agree the case looks recut - nicely I might add.

Lovely watch and don't doubt the value. Personally would hold onto 2 Subs esp full sets.

I'm thinking that the bezel insert may be a later replacement, but that's just based on my non-expert inspection of the shape of the "8"s. I believe, that the printing should be a bit fatter, and the top circle of the "8" more flattened. Again, I hope to be corrected if I'm wrong.

It’s a replacement insert...so 17k is too much...at this time I’d say is 14-15k....very nice watch but I would not trade 2 full sets and cash....are your watches all original matching tritium? If so I’d say even trade at most

Hi, yes full sets, papers, books etc, full 12 link bracelets, even bezel protectors, original stickered boxes. Original tritium dials and handsets, both bracelets just overhauled by Michael Young. I was thinking a straight swap too. I will run it by him tomorrow. Still mulling this one over, so thanks for your help guys.

Replacement insert but nice watch and recut for sure as stated... Personally I think it may be worth both subs right now/no cash. For me its the GMT as I feel one great/solid piece is better than two quite common (no date 1990s subs). Kind of a weird analogy but there isn't a sports GM who wouldn't trade a couple of solid/good players for one great one.

I think its perhaps worth slightly less than my two submariners, given only by a few hundred, but nevertheless, cash in the opposite direction isn't going to happen.

Yes I agree, not a great deal. I thought about it, but the seller seems firm on cash his way, if anything I should have some cash my way lol The 14060 is barely worn, a true safe queen too.

Long-E dial is nice, but the recut case, replacement insert and lack of B&P would make me hold on to the two subs and the cash.

Thanks. Yeah the whole desire for a vintage dial and handset, but cutting the case to look brand new is something I never understood.

I agree, I would negotiate a bit harder on this if you really want it to happen. Looks like a really nice GMT.

I tried, but the seller basically wants to flip the two subs so he wanted a lower trade value on those plus more cash. We were never going to meet in the middle.

Glad to hear your keeping your Subs and didn't do that deal. I love 4/5 digit Gmts as much as anyone else here and a near perfect 16710 full set just found me. I think your Subs will go up in value as much on there own as his Gmt will. 5 digit Subs are hot and getting hotter.

Thanks guys. Once the purple haze of the trade dissipated, I was glad I made the right decision.
